If the TV has only one tuner (which I suspect it would) then she can't record one channel and watch another.

If in doubt - read the instructions:o.
Bigjohn is right.
A way around this is to buy a cheap HD set top box (less than $70 these days) and plug it into the HDMI/AVI ports on the TV. Record via the TV and switch the TV to AV/HDMI and watch TV via the set top box - likewise some set top boxes will record to USB so record via the settop box and watch Tv on the TV.

Thanks all, another request, your opinion on TEAC vs. Samsung, any opinions will be appreciated, never thought it would be so much hassle buying a TV, Regards Frank.

Yep most new tv,s can record to usb and cards as for teac vs samsung? Samsung is the worlds biggest manufacture of tv,s supposedly and teac dont actually manufacture tv,s they rebadge :(

Agree it would be unlikely you can record while watching a different channel. You need 2 tuners (read: 2 separate devices).
My personal preference is Samsung or maybe Panasonic. Samsung are definitely known for making good TV's these days. I'm not sure I've even seen a TEAC? If it's a choice between TEAC and Samsung, I'd definitely go Samsung.

tell her to watch the tele in the bedroom,
you can watch the footy in the lounge and record the other show.

I didn't know TV's could record to USB?
My LG plasma has twin HD tuners and a 250gig harddrive so is constantly recording the last 2 hours as well as the ability to permanently record to the hard drive - it can also record to USB or a 1tb hard drive.
When I am watching and want a coffee I just hit pause and continue watching (hit play) when back and fast forward on the next ad to catch up - likewise I can just leave the it going and when getting back just hit rewind.
Great system
