I'm a novice re alternators.

The 1st 2 shots are what I took off the LR and its regulator. It has a battery lead & a D+ & D- spade terminals.

The 3rd is what I installed from another engine (due to my assuming it was identical) but it's obviously not insofar as it only has one spade terminal (D+ or D-?). Also, it seems to have a built in regulator.

Which is the better one to use?

How is the latter one wired in?

3rd pic alternator is easy to use and wire. Bolt terminal is wired to battery positive, spade terminal is wired to the dash ignition bulb. This wire would be at the D+ terminal of the old regulator, which you unplug and discard. This should connect via the cable and plug to your old alternator. The other terminals on your old reg and alternator are DF, not D-, they are internal with the replacement alternator.
