Has any one heard if they bolt up to the td5 bellhousing. I reckon they would be a great motor to change out to, so much more power.

Bell Autos and Ashcrofts are working on it with the HD MT82 gearbox, don't know about the R380 though.

The r380 won't be capable of handling the extra torque... It's pretty much maxed out with a remapped td5.

Bell housing is a major limiter for flywheel and clutch size also so that would need to be addresses too.

... Just read the Defnder2e thread. Looks like my post above has already been covered.

Interesting project.

The new Ford Ranger uses the 3.2 5cyl and the MT82 box. Might be easier trying to shoehorn the Ranger version in than the Tranny one:D

I'm seriously considering a 3.2 Ranger pickup.

Cheaper than the Toymota and nicer to look at IMHO.

Is it really that bad ?

There were lots of problems with the MT82 in the Mustang, but they were assembled/built in China, how are the UK and SA built ones going ?

My box has never missed a beat, changes gears without issue (providing it is done slowly), doesn't give any indication of problems.

My Mate is roofer and has had 2 Transit’s, the first one was traded in at 350,000k's, the new one already has 180,000k's on it.

He loads it up to the max with roof tiles and associated equipment and tows a trailer full of more stuff.

He has not had any problems with either of the boxes or engines for that matter. (Unlike his previous VW)
