I guys, just a thanks for all of the advice on the 80in, she went over the pits today and finally passed, though I had to do abit of fast talking, as the steering box still has too much(by modern standards) play in it. As you can see I have decided to keep it in original 'straight from the farm' condition, but have it safe and roadworthy, If anyone knows where in Oz I can get some hood sticks from, it would be a great help before the winter sets in...Thanks once again

Great work. I prefer landies kept in original patina. However personally I would patch the extra headlight holes.

Yep, such a bugger that someone cut them in, not sure if I should plate them with aluminum and somehow age them or maybe some small mesh grill might fit in a little better...but I agree, they need filling in.

Well done! Will we see you over at Ricks showing it off while he completes his?
I would be interested in seeing how much play you have at the steering wheel and compare it to his.

On the drivers side, one big number plate and youre set (same as original ones) on the passenger side ..
and maybe a big speaker behind some mesh on passenger side (hooked to a tape of a huge v8!) :)

Wow nice old Landy and glad that you kept the well used but cared for look.
As what other have said i would go a patch some thing like what the factory used for number plate just a section of alloy that was painted black also i would be ditching that strange rear bar set up cant be any good for off roading with that there :D

If anyone knows where in Oz I can get some hood sticks from, it would be a great help before the winter sets in.
25 yrs back when I restored my 80" I made the hoops from 1" (I think it was 1" from memory) old stock gal electrical conduit from the store in the Heidelberg repeat hospital. I copied the fittings in gal sheet & brazed them on & painted the welds with silver frost. I'm sure you can still order the gal conduit in from Middys, they use it in lift wells etc. they are very easy to make just with basic hand tools, you just need to borrow a set to copy. The door top parts are the hard bits.
I got the bloke in Moorabbin to make the canvas, (around the corner from MacNamaras) took it to a LR Concourse & they did not pick on the hood frame.
