Gooday
I have owned a Disco 3 TDV6 for 2.5 years but have just bought a S2A, ex-army as a pit of a project.
She has been named Cracker because when I arrived home with her my wife went into fits of laughter, what did she expect? A D4?
Now for the first of what will no doubt be many questions.
Should there be a fuse box? If so where? I seem to be short of lights.
Why do I need to push up the big lever to the left of the instruments to start her?
Under the bonnet on the firewall almost in front of the driver is a box that says Lucas on it & has some sort of coils in it, what is that?
It is a 4 cylinder petrol, what size motor is it?
Now some more general info, it's 1972, 109" mainly rust free - some on the grill, some under the bonnet & some surface rust on the chassis rails.
Why are there dip sticks under the seats?
Now the important question,
Do I do her up back to an army look or do I go a bit nuts & paint her bright yellow & black & modernise her some? Be interested to hear your ideas.

That is a hand throttle, you should not have to adjust that to start it.

I would normally suggest the voltage regulator for the generator, but in 72, I would have thought it would have an alternator.
It is a 4 cylinder petrol, what size motor is it?

A '72 series 2A is a bit unusual. More pics would be great.

Pop/Paul has answered most of the Q's...and chassis number and engine
number would be helpful..that will tell us most things;):D

The Chassis number seems to be 25340248H
I will have to find the engine # tomorrow.
As far as the hand throttle goes,
The choke is NOT connected, 1 of the many fixes.
It may be me but it is like the battery won't turn the motor over unless the hand throttle is up? Or maybe I'm just clueless.
While I'm here another question.
I know the brakes wont be real flash compared to the D3 but how bad is not real flash? Many moons ago I had a couple of VW dubs, very light, & they did not seem to need half the foot pressure I'm using in Cracker. i intend to strip all this down anyway but I would like some idea so I know when they are working.

Sounds like you have a fantastic car!
Scroll down the forums list until you find REMLR - Registry of Ex-Military Land Rovers and you can join the rest of us there.
If you Google REMLR, you will find the Registry web page where there is all sorts of useful information on what Rovers the Army had and how they were used, including some very inspiring restoration photos that various members have submitted.
I too have a 109" GS, so welcome to the family :D
