Hi all,

I have seen a 2.7 diesel engine from a Disco 3 engine into a disco 2.

However I wondered what would be the difference in fitting the Range Rover 3.0 Diesel engine?

Would this be allowed by an engineer?

Looking forward to a worthwhile technical discussion.

Cheers,
Chilly

Most who discuss have never actually performed any engine conversions

Are you actually considering it? The problem will be engine management/security, everything else will be easily overcome

I was under the impression that the Td6 would not fit under the Disco bonnet, which is why LandRover were developing the Td6 (LR's one, Not BMW's), TD5 and TD4. TD6 for the RR, TD5 for the D2 and TD4 for the Freeby. When BMW took over they replaced the TD6 and TD4 with their own motors but had nothing suitable for the Discovery so the TD5 lived on.

What rovercare said. If the physical dimensions fit, that's doable. Tying all the various computers and electronics together is critical. Do your research on that first, put together anelectrical schematic and see what is needed.
First engine conversion i did i spent a year researching dimensions and electronics first. Didn't start first time, but at least i knew the system inside out and picked the problem quickly.

When you say the TD6 does not fit under the bonnet...are we talking height, width, length or a mixture?

I am considering it...they have put the 2.7 Disco 3 engine into a Disco 1 and also a P38.....Will be sending the company who done this a Email enquiring about the conversion.

Length as far as I've read - but not personally measured. Thats not to make any comment on the other aspects though. This is the Inline6 that I'm talking about, not the V6.

I would assume if people are installing the 2.7TDV6 then the 3.0TDV6 would be a very similar fit - although the gearbox may be another consideration with the amount of torque it produces.

I cant comment on the electronics.

I sent an email last year to the company. at that point they had not developed a kit for the Disco 2 but said it should be easily achieved.

keep us all informed.

Hi Hoges,

Thanks for posting the link....guessing I should of added that in the original set of questions.

I am looking at the L322 3.0 diesel.

I have not found anyone else who is/has done these mods....seems the ECU is the hard part.

Will report back on response from Bodylogic

Wow - in the lighter body that 2.7 has some serious stonk.....It might even convert me, a die hard V8 fan.:D

Cheers

This is very awesome.... I'd love to have a v8 diesel in mine if it were possible, but the v6 like this would do very nicely.

WOW! Does anyone have any idea what the conversion cost is..... not that I'll be doing it having just shelled out........ well I don't know yet  for the Td5 rebuild. But it will end up being about $8k I think.
Wish I'd known this could be done... I would have been very tempted.
