We have had an annoying Helicoptor hovering over Helensburgh for the past 2 days, any other suburbs having this problem:confused:
It's not the Police or the SES, nor NPWS, the Police said they have tried to get them to bugger off with no success:eek::twisted:

I know of a sure fire way of getting them to leave the area. Very cost effective as well.
its called a shotgun or flare gun.
works a treat

If they are below the legal 500ft limit without permission , you should be able to read the Rego of the Helo.
If you get the rego........ring CASA.....they will take interest.
If you can not read the Rego they are above 500 ft.

Note
they could be doing power line checks and cleaning in your area.

When you consider the hourly cost to keep a helicopter in the air, it must be there for a very good reason.

My guess is something to do with the mine, came in from the south (maybe Albion park) radar picked it up as it lifted over the escarpment at Panorama house at 10:47 was over the burgh at 10:52 staying around 1500 - 2000ft. It appears it may have landed at the mine at 11:45. (vanished off radar so either landed or headed off down the valley)
Reappeared again from the south at 13:58 (maybe headed off to refuel ?)

I didn't suggest this, but if they get real low a potato cannon will put a good hole in the fuselage.

They were just investigating the totally out of character behaviour of one of the Shire's more notable residents.
Such an unusual sight for you be at home on such a beautiful Autumn weekend Baz ....................................... when more often than not you're out inspecting the bush and checking the tracks. :D :D :D :wasntme:

when they spray for mozzies here in Brisbane they fly really low, so low in fact that my house sits on a small hill around 50ft above sea level and the helicopters fly lower than our house on the spray run, rise turn and bank on the ends and thats when they get LOUD. close enough at times to throw things at then no need for guns or such :o

It apparently landed at the oval at Stanwell Park for some reason, no fuel truck spotted, Sunday it was over our place for 2hrs before it bugger off north, a work mate said it started Friday arvo near the Temple area.
When we first noticed it it was over Garawarra just west of our place for a couple of hours and slowly worked it's way around the Burgh.
Odd, guess we may find out in the local rag, thanks Bushie.

Come to my place in summer. Then you will hear the sounds of helicopters. Gets to be a bit like a scene from apocalypse now. Would be quieter if they did it the old fashioned way and just waited till they could see smoke in the distance.

I don't know, just by saying what he said its a crime!
Had laser pointer in my cockpit twice on approach just b4 sunset, had a crossbow aimed at us whilst doing aerial photography and some punk threw an apple into tail rotor while hovering at airfield after refuel to settle machine down as wind changed very quickly!
And I was just training, imagine what the pros experience!

Is it really a crime to make a sarcastic or Tongue-in-cheek remark?
- Would'nt surpise me if the above is true, apparantly it IS a crime (of some sort) to assert the existance of a legal loophole to our Preferential Voting System... and explaining it is an even bigger Sin.
The pros get shot at with AK's RPG's & Surface-to-Air missiles...and don't complain. Nor are they paid as much as the noisy so-an-so inspecting powerlines...

My son said that they use choppers in Vic because it is very mountainous where as NSW is a much larger area. Interesting that the Chopper company above is based in Orange. My son just finished this area last Thursday.

Dave, yeah they all mix and match - I guess it depends on who has what contract with which power company. I don't think the line inspection is a major part of what he does, I was just meaning to say that they do use choppers for that work. :)

G'day Baz,
YOu need to report this in the first instance to:
https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aircraftnoise/about-making-a-complaint/how-to-make-a-complaint/
Try and note the position , time, distinctive markings and colours, and see if you can get the rego (you may need the binoculars) it will be VH-???
Helicopters, with permission, can operate lower than fixed wings (e.g.: Police, Surf Rescue etc 300' AGL or other 500' AGL) on even more unusual ops they can operate much lower (power line surveys and even power line repairs.)
I have also known people to have fully grown trees helicoptered in to their new mansion in Toorak!
Having trained on rotary wing and know several owners, what you say is no doubt the most stupid so far this year!
I know of someone recently who made "threats against aircraft" to the noise complaints hotline - he was handed to AFP. He tried to argue that it was "tounge in cheek" and "didn't even own a gun" (or potato bazooka:p). The AFP couldn't really see the funny side so charged him anyway.:nazilock:

Anyone involved in aviation will tell you that any kind of threat is taken very serious indeed.
Anyone flying any aircraft for payment is a pro, some get shot at but their machines are equipped with armour and devices for early detection, machines like Robinsons or Jet Ranger for passengers have not protection at all.
Any-how- be careful what is said about flying.

If a coppa said that today, that would be his last words in that uniform.

...Understandable, - and so it should be.
At the same time, if pilots are being wilful nuisances, then they need to be reminded that flying OVER or nearly over my residence is a privilege and not a 'Right' and brings with it certain responsibilities.... which is behind the original gripe, if I'm correctly reading the spaces between the lines.
Good Manners would dispel these problems...

In the past few years with a terrorism threat ever present. The terrorists do not need to do any physical act and the simple reason is they have instilled fear into your heads. Even thou terrorism is real they are preying on peoples perception and emotions.

Its called 'propaganda', - and before we identify it with Nazi Germany and other evil usages, (ironic, as the US government was a bigger user of it before Hitler came to power) you could spend a few hours googling
Google (http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&sa=X&ei=r7KYT7rVLqWtiQfb4437BQ&ved=0CBoQvwUoAQ&q=father+of+spin&spell=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=d5fd5525fab42331&biw=1074&bih=842)
and

Enjoy the sidetracks :-)
You'll soon see that Boosy is on the money... the West is being crippled more by 'perception' than fact. Not only in terrorism, but even in everyday life... - Speeeeeed Kills !.... 24/7 40km/h limits around schools are saving hundreds of Little Kids.....- anyone seen figures ? ANY figures ? .... Removing corporal punishment from schools is producing a less-violent and more civilised society..... eating large amounts of genetically modified, chemically-altered plant oil IS healthier than a natural, un-altered animal fat.... the list is endless.
Finally, urban myth maybe, but I prefer the South American approach to terrorist hijackings... passengers on the various air lines in the region were respectfully requested to take on board nothing bigger than a .38 - Anyone recall any hijackings in Latin America ?

Reminds me of an argument I had on another forum with some bushwalkers. 1st fella said he like rolling rocks onto 4wd tracks to hopefully take out a diff or two. Once he got "both barrels" from a few, he retorted with the ol' "I was only kidding" defence. I s'pose it depends on what you do for a living as to how offensive some found your comments. ;)

Baz if the police have made a call to who ever controls that piece of airspace and cant get them to leave they probably have a legal reason to be there. Are they flying low or just noisy?
It is "controlled" by Sydney Terminal Control unit. Although, I think you find this area is Class G or uncontrolled airspace at those levels. Which gives the pilot some independence as to their flight path.
As mentioned prior, The Air Services Aus. noise hotline is the first port of call. If no luck you can speak with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) if you believe the pilot was acting dangerously. Of course a phone call to your local federal member may help too
Police have very little to do with controlling aircraft in flight; when they do it is usually AFP.
If this is a "one off" flight, there is probably little that can be done now, however if it becomes regular, start a diary.
Plenty of action is taken regularly (and successfully) to address concerns such as yours Baz, but you need to provide the evidence.
Given the structure and direction of our government, noise nuisance will continue to be a serious priority for the aviation industry into the future.
[Whoops, there I go begin serious again.]
