Just after some advise, I have run for the past few remote area trips, a garmin nuvi, with oztopo mapping, it's going to cost me about $260 to update the system as it's an old version. I don't need street mapping, I purely want a moving map setup and that will do all remote areas, I have an iPad for work, should I look at mud maps or the hema iPad maps for this sort of use, or can any one suggest another app
I also run paper maps and compass, as well as a garmin Montana 650t which is mainly for hiking.
Cheers in advance.

Hi,
I have Memory Map on the IPad2 and is great, that said the Nuvi5000 I also have is excellent if you want turn by turn navigation everywhere. The downside is as you say the Garmin map upgrade is not cheap.

Hi

There are a number of options, which I am still looking at since I moved from windows mobile to an Ipad.

If you just want a simple moving map and happy just using the free Geoscience Australia 1:250k topo map imagery give Avenza PDF Maps a go. It uses the georeferenced PDF map sheets. They can be downloaded at no cost from within the application or directly from Geoscience Australia web site.

I've yet to give memory map a good working out, but it also seems a popular choice.

Cheers
