View Full Version : Where to get Auto Elec supplies in Adelaide? (Q: for Bee Utey maybe?)

Am after a supplier of what I'd call the 'good old fashioned' type of auto electrical connectors that I remember for a long time ago. I think they were either Hella or Bosch. The push on bayonet types and eyelets & etc are what I am after. And I need some rolls of auto wire too.

All I can find at Repco or JayCar are the cheap(er) looking Taiwanese knock-offs (Narva or no-name).

Bee Utey - Are you an auto electrician (or is Gas your specialty)? If so where do you get your supplies from?

Thanks
David

Did you try the Shop on this forum? They aren't bayonet — not that I've ever seen that type.

Well, I did actually think of DriveSafe (which is sort of the same), but I'd quite like to take a hands on look before I buy, that's all.

I'll go and take a look at Dave's shop now.....

Maybe I am using the wrong words, this is what I mean:

Hi Spudboy

I can get anything that is stocked by Bursons Automotive as I have a trade account there. As for Narva their quality is quite good these days. I use Narva crimp terminals and cable for all my gas work so I keep a full selection of what I need at all times. They have different terminal styles, fully covered female connectors and polycarbonate high temp covered ones too.

Terminals & Connectors - Products - Narva (http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/terminals-connectors)

Also the big auto electrician's shop at Bridgewater has a good range of Narva stuff and can probably get anything you need.

I have a Hella catalogue too, I used to use them until the new Narva range came out.

Edit: Oh and by the way, you should have a proper ratchet style of crimper for these terminals, the old "pliers" type is marginal in comparison.

The top ones when in the original style were originally called Lucar (made by Lucas) and later known as spade terminals. I bought the complete stock of one of my local auto parts store. No one wanted them any more as they all want the crimp style you show.

I have the proper crimping tool for this type (mine were made by Utilux):

The lower connectors are bullet connectors.

Thanks for that - Bursons is not a name I know, so I will go and find out where they are.

Good to hear that the Narva are better quality, as they are stocked by heaps of outlets. Wasn't thrilled with the quality of some I bought a few years ago, so that's why I was trying to find some Hella/Bosch suppliers.

Cheers

The plain brass ones aren't as reliable in slightly damp conditions, the plated ones that Utilux sold were better, but probably aren't sold anymore. One of the LPG equipment suppliers (Apexus) sells each electrical item with a set of plated terminals of this type, complete with soft covers, so I have a few in my box (and the crimper to suit). I did ask them once about purchasing a box quantity, but didn't follow it up.

No. 1 son worked in the aviation electrical area a couple of years ago. The spade connectors they used were of much better quality than anything else I've seen. But I suppose they'd need to be. There is a specific standard for these but I've got no idea what it is or where you'd get them. :( sorry.

My son works for a mob doing powerline inspections. The company have their own in house servicing for their planes.

When the weather is too bad to fly, he often heads to the workshop to help out. I will see if he can get me any info on electrical terminals for aviation use.

Dave.

Got to Bursons down in Adelaide yesterday (Kent Town) and bought a number of boxes of connectors (boxes of 100). Price is about 40% less than buying them in "blister packs" from Repco etc.

Good shop - wish I had a $10,000 gift voucher with them as I reckon I could get rid of it pretty quickly :) Lots of very nice tools & etc.
