Well, it's been a while since my harmonic balancer went....... 15 weeks actually.
The result was a buggered crankshaft and thus, a total rebuild of the mighty Td5 was in order. Delays in finding parts and a myriad of other problems meant a very trying period and no 4wd for the summer long weekends etc.
Timing coudn't have been worse money wise either but hey, that's life.
Well last night I finally got the call that the old girl was finally ready and WOW, I now fully understand why the Td5 impressed everyone so much when it was new..... coz that's what mine is now. New (well 2nd hand) crank, new bearings, new rings, new water pump, new fuel heater, new front frive shaft, all new hoses, new engine mounts and oh, of course a new harmonic balancer.
The result, is just unbelievable. Oodles of power, low vibration/noise.... it's just fantastic:D
My D2a is virtually new now as far as the drivetrain is concerned with the transmission only 30k old, lockers front and rear etc etc
Special thanks to Fred Smith Automotive for his truly sensational work.
Can't wait to get it dirty again....... hope to see you on the tracks very soon:)
