Side mouldings

Does anyone know how to remove the side mouldings off a disco like this?
I think it would look nicer without them, can you peel it off or are they screwed into place?

I pulled mine off. But I'm repainting the old girl. I'd be surprised if you could remove them successfully and the Panels still look good. Even after scraping the adhesive off with a chisel (yes you read that correctly, a chisel ) and rubbing like make with wet and dry, I can still see the shadow where they were.

So yours was glued on?? Yes I thought the glue would be solid because its been on there for 15 years, I might still give it a go though.

I was thinking that if it would be too hard to remove them I could paint them white

It looks like it's got double sided tape with a kind of rubberized glue in between. I found the strips easy to get off, but the residual glues left was extremely difficult to remove.

Genuine moulds were just secured with double sided tape & usually come off with a little warming up from a heat gun.


Bearing in mind that these cars are around 15 years old, anything could have happened in their lifetime.

Moulds lift; owner gets a price on a new one; mould gets glued back on with what ever is to hand.

You can buy a rubber wheel that you put on a drill to rub glue residue and stickers off car bodies, have used it successfully myself a few times. I removed the glue from my Disco pinstriping. Any auto store should sell them, about $12 if I remember correctly. Doesn't damage the paintwork either, a chisel sounds pretty scary.:o Not sure if it would take off the adhesive though it sounds really tough. Maybe worth a try. Anyway hope this helps.

Ok I might call supercheap auto and ask them about it, i think if i heated the glue and used this it would come off eventually.

THe wheel lane was talking about is called a Caramel wheel, should be able to get them from auto stores, just break off the mouldings and then hit the glue/double sided tape with it, you may need a few, but don't go too hard in one spot as you may burn the paint
