Having been without our defender for a few weeks, I was keen to take her and the family for a run before heading back to work tomorrow. We've had her looked at in preparation for our Gibb River Rd trip in July this year and I'm obviously keen to make sure that as many faults are fixed before we go - so we hooked up our No.5 trailer, cranked up the aircon loaded the family in and up through the hills we went.
If you ever been to Mundaring Weir Hotel, you'll know of the short but steep climb to the carpark. Yes, there is another way around, but I like this one.....so, knowing momentum is my friend and I have no friends, I select low range first and off we go (keep in mind for those that know this road, I was stationary at the bottom). I get to the top, no problem; park feeling reasonably happy (cause I just cant help but be happy when I drive my 'fender!) and decide to check the engine bay as I'd had a few leaks fixed and there was the coolant fluid - all over the front diff and axle housing, dripping off the steering guard and I'm not so happy any more:confused:
First thoughts were the top radiator hose wasnt tight at the tank side, but then, on closer inspection, the plug that is in line with the top radiator hose was on an angle that I'm not accustomed to....and with bugger all assistance the plastic plug came away from the radiator.
Hmmm. Feeling around, the new expansion tank was checked to find that it was empty. So, 1pm on a nice Tuesday afternoon, we're at the pub, no coolant, no replacement plug so I make a call to my preferred Land Rover specialists in Morley. After outlining the situation, Steve releases Allan to assist and after a nice rib eye steak with the family and a cold ale, Allan arrives and makes a quick job of getting the remaining plug out of the top of the radiator, refilled with coolant, fitted a new brass plug, ran her up to operating temp and we were good to go.
Your help today Steve and Allan is what I call customer service - Nigel, the family and I are very grateful for the service that you provided today -especially considering the distance to travel to us and back to your workshop, dropping all sorts of other urgent work that I know your other customers need from you. For those of you who may have been affected by the fact that Allan came out into the field, I thank you for your understanding.
Cheers again Steve and Allan.
Regards
Martin
