RUBBER GROMMETT

Hi all

Where can you purchase the rubber grommetts where the rear height sensor connects to the axle link arm?

I rang Graeme from Britcar and says that there doesn't seem to be a part number for that.

If it's come adrift.. you may need to bodge up a replacement.

Just thinking:eek: You could cut and drill a replica with the exact dimensions from the material in one of those cheap rubber hand sanding blocks. It is about the right density and strength.

Then superglue it to the radius arm (which is made from some sort of hi-tech carbon composite)

Loctite 406 is great superglue but keep it refrigerated after opening to prolong its shelf life

I ripped one of mine a couple of years ago, and bodgied a fix using 3 cable ties. When that eventually came apart thanks to a rock or some other obstacle, I "upgraded" to a flexible metal plate and a couple of short Tek screws in to the remaining rubber. Could be a couple of cable ties there as well.

I have been down that road many moons ago in the early 1990`s. I had a Classic with EAS and after a trip out into some heavy clay, the clay hardened like concrete causing the elbow to seize up and rip apart. The part as I recall was made by Dunlop but I was unable to get the rubber alone. I was able find a friendly specialist who had a failed sender to donate the part. Try buying a used unit on ebay UK and ask they just send the rubber. Better still try making one yourself, I am sure I have seen pics of a mod somewhere.

If you are super keen to get a replacement this website might give you a start.
I would take a look at joint rubber control arm or Bush pivot

Thanks all, looks like as mentioned I'll have to improvise something.
That's the beauty of P38's, a vehicle full of surprise, but addictive to fix, and better than sex to drive,lol.
