Virus? Worm, Nothing?

My sister's XP machine did this this morning. Ran a scan with Nortons but nothing detected. Changed the background and it disappeared.

Any ideas guys?

Well, there's ya problem.
Norton is one of the worst Windows Virus's around.:D

On a more serious note, get her to try Avast AV, it's free for home use, updates virus signatures 6 hourly, and I have never had any problems using it on everything from XP up to Win 8 beta's.

Worth a try (found online):

This sounds like an (innaccessable or blank) web page has been set as a
desktop item. When added these appear as a small square in the centre
right of the screen, hovering over them reveals a hidden Title bar.
When maximised they take up all of the screen except a column to the
left, maximising again take the full screen.
The normal right click method of accessing the Display properties does
not work with these items. If you want to get rid of it (or add/alter
one) go to Control Panel and choose Display
In the the Desktop tab click on the Customise Desktop button
In the Web tab make sure that any pages are unticked, you can also
delete them if you like but this is not necessary.
