Hi all,
Have a laptop with windoze 7 home on it,approx 10 months old.Have always run Firefox/Thunderbird on it,but over the last few months it has become a bit problematic.
It tends to freeze more often(both apps) than not and its giving me the ****s. Hardly have any of the apps that you can download to help you clog up your system resources,so its not that.
Have regular cleanouts, but its not helping.
Besides IE,is there another op system that is free from all the garbage that one doesnt want/need to get the job done that is relatively easy to use.
Thanks
cheers

Google Chrome. Rarely crashes — unlike FF.

yep chrome....
in the evolution of browsers compared to vehicle systems...
IE is like a low compression NA petrol engine pushing a trimatic.... any idiot can drive one but its not much good for anything, it saps recourses and is slow as all hell.
Firefox is like a common rail diesel shoving on a 6 speed syncro manual. Most people can drive it and its usually reliable but when it goes wrong its a headache.
Chrome is like an old school thermodyne with the manual valve timing adjustment and injection advance shoving an 18 speed road ranger with a sliding mesh square cut 4 speed splitting Tcase humped onto 2 speed diffs. The bloke who can drive fire fox will be able to drive chrome but he wont be able to get the most out of it and being old school with just the slightest of care it will go forever. However, given to someone who knows......

Have you got Windows Live Essentials - I did a standard update on it last week and browsers went into go slow mode after the update. Did a system restore and all went well - because the message to update Windows Live Essential came up again, and again, and again, I updated again today and you guessed it - every thing is slow - just finished another system restore and everything OK - just need to kill the annoying Windows Live Essentials update message.

Yes and yes.
Opera was my first browser many, many years ago. Opera Web Browser | Faster & safer | Download the new Internet browsers free (http://www.opera.com/download/)
I have no idea how Safari ended up on my Windows machine. I think it must have been installed when I did an iTunes update.
Apple - Safari - Download the world (http://www.apple.com/safari/download/)
There are some annoying features of Chrome that one has to workaround, mainly to do with integrating other applications, e.g., the Roboform toolbar

I've been using Opera for a few years. It has inbuilt email stuff as well that can be a little quirky/strange sometimes.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
Will look into SRWares iron and Chrome.
Thing I dont like about Safari is that when you bookmark a webpage,it doesnt come up as it does on Firefox or IE..dropdown box.. You have to go back through the dates/pages to see where you bookmarked something that you might not have to use for a month or three.

Another vote for Chrome.
I got fed up with the way Firefox has gone downhill fast recently, tried the latest Chrome, it's now my default browser.
Can take a little getting used to and sorted as you like it, but it's fast and reliable.

I cannot do internet banking with the Telstra Credit Union when using Chrome.
I can with SRIron (based on Chrome), with IE8, with Safari, and with Opera. I just tested them all.
