Is there anywhere in the greater Brisbane area that isn't a 4wd park, where you can legally have a bit of off-road fun? I don't mind if I have to chase permits or anything like that. I know plenty of land where people do usually go, but these days the cops are out in force, handing out tickets.

G'Day Timbo. THis is very popular, just don't drive like an FWit or it'll get closed too.
Take a mate to pull you out ; )
Google Maps (http://g.co/maps/7da9h)

What's your poison?
Bribie for beach and inland track, loose and deep.
Beerburrrum for a warm up and the odd surprise on teh side tracks
Glasshouse for some more challenging tracks.
Lotsa options.
More here:
Find 4WD Tracks - 4x4 Earth Australia for 4WD Tracks (http://www.4x4earth.com.au/tracks.html)
Hope this helps, Dave.

Timbo, why dont you join the Land Rover Owners Club. Instead of being a bit renegade, you can go with them to some of the best places.....4wd parks or not.

We recently stayed at Borumba Deer Park for a few days camping, it's very close to some interesting drives through Imbil State Forest.

There's also Charlie Moreland Campground and Booloumba Campground nearby

Another vote for Glasshouse

I can confirm I was there on Wednesday. Nearly 18 months now it's been closed. It would be nice if they posted pictures of the damage or gave an update of what they're actually doing. Of course they may not even be reopening it, who knows as they are still using the floods as the excuse.

You could try Duck Creek Road.. it's not a long track but there are some nice spots either at the top or the bottom for a picnic lunch if you want to make a day of it.. and don't forget to drop a dollar or two in the donation tin at the gate to help keep it open.. It's not a challenging road but nice for a drive.. Duck Creek Rd to ORiellys - 4x4 Earth Australia for 4WD Tracks (http://www.4x4earth.com.au/tracks.html'site=645_Duck-Creek-Rd-to-ORiellys)

Cliff Barons road (off upper Ormeau rd) at Ormeau also leads to some tracks near the quarry there.. but I believe some of the tracks have been closed but it's close to me and there still seems to be a lot of very dirty 4WD's coming and going from that area on the weekends so there must still be enough open to attract 4WDers..

I have also heard (but not seen) of tracks at Mount Tamborine.. starting off Caballo Road, Guanaba and come out at Wongawallan Road.. I believe it can be very slippery when wet so may pay to check that one out in the dryer months.. I did a google on it and found this.. Guanaba to Mt Tambourine - 4x4 Earth Australia for 4WD Tracks (http://www.4x4earth.com.au/tracks.html'site=1100_Guanaba-to-Mt-Tambourine)

Then you've got the neaches... Bribie, Stradbroke etc.. you'll need to get permits for these - Stradbroke permits are around $37 for a year and the barges have a early bird special for Sundays ($50 return if you book a week in advance and am on the early one in the morning - about 6am) Bribie I think is a bit more expensive for permits..

Sadly 4WD tracks are getting fewer and further... and we are really only left with 4WD parks if you want to drive some good tracks closer to the Brisbane area... There are two 4WD parks close to Beaudesert which make it close enough for most for a day trip..

:)

I'm interested in doing the Duck Creek track to O'Reilley's next Saturday, towing our camper (unless its still raining heavily), and staying overnight. Anyone else interested?

Be great to have some company. Haven't been there before so I'm flexible about where to meet. Do you think the camper will be a problem on it?

Umm usually no...been a bit wet of late though...on a dry day a 2wd can easily go up, so shouldn't be a problem if it gets slippery chuck it in 4WD and you should be right:D

Meeting point around Beaudesert I should think:)

Mrs hh:angel:

P.S. havent seen you since Kenilworth homestead, nice to catch up again:D

Is anyone interested in doing the track near Mt Brisbane Rd anytime soon?

Meet at Dayboro perhaps, then follow mt pleasant rd>mt brisbane rd> leave the tarmac at the intersection of chambers rd?

Seems to be what I can gather from the 4x4earth site. Anybody know if this track is currently open or not?

We'd be interested, but I don't know anything about it.

It's rated as difficult on 4x4 earth. Clay and steep inclines/declines, low range 1st necessary. Hope it is open.

The mention of clay makes me think you might run into trouble if your tires lose any more tread. When are you thinking of getting some new rubber?

A set of muddies are on the way.
The front BFG ATs are OK but the rear Cooper STs have worn badly.

You never know extreme may just say yes:)

I've created a thread in Upcoming Events for Mt Mee/Dayboro area, for those interested. Anyone familiar with the track would be more than welcome, as I'll be going in blind, hoping not to get too lost. From what I could see on 4x4Earth, and what I can see on google maps satellite view, the track seems fairly well defined, so choosing the correct path shouldn't be a problem.

Just be wary that much of Mt Mee is closed atm. AFAIK the entrance from Lacey's Creek Rd is inaccessible. You can get through to Neurum from the Gantry, but a lot of the fun stuff is between Lacey's Creek and the Gantry :(

Does that include the road that branches off Mt Brisbane Rd to the left just before Mt Brisbane Rd changes into Chambers Rd?
