Just wondering if someone has a list of the oil quantities for the TDV6 D3.

I seem to remember reading 0.61 ltrs for the front diff, but can't for the life of me remember where I read that. I'm also a bit nervous, as I changed all the oils in the diffs, gearbox, transfer case etc, but filled them to the 'filler plug' rather than measured a specific quantity.

Now, there seems to be controversy on how much oil goes into the diffs etc. I have written down 1.2 ltrs on my service cheat sheet, but because I've read 'horror stories' when filling the diffs to the 'filler plug', my rear is starting to twitch.

So, could someone confirm how much oil goes where, please.

(Does it really matter if you fill the diffs to the fill plug)

Cheers

As far as I am aware filling to the bung is not the correct process - the workshop manual specifically warns against it. The exception is the auto gearbox but it must be filled within a temperature range (35 - 50 degrees??)

Lubricant amounts from the workshop manual.

Engine oil – 5.54 litres of 5W/30 oil to specification WSS-M2C-913B meeting ACEA B1/B3 spec grade oil

Rear diff oil – 1.1 litres of Castrol SAF-XO - 75W/90 spec grade oil

Front diff oil – .61 litres of Castrol SAF-XO - 75W/90 spec grade oil

Transfer case oil – 1.5 litres of Shell TF 0753 spec grade oil

A basic drain of gear box oil – 3.5-4 litres of Shell M13754 spec grade oil

And while we are at it - brake fluid every 3 years
• Replace brake rotors if under spec – min 17 mm rear, min 27 mm front
• Replace brake pads if down – min 3 mm rear, min 3 mm front
• Replace park brake pads if down – min 2mm

It's in the back of the owners manual too, you know the thick one!

When I changed my diff oils I tried to see how much the front would take filling it the old way, and couldn't get more than 1 ltr in before it came out the filler hole. would think .9 ltr max.

I am no expert , but cant see how it could hurt your diffs having more oil than less oil , as long as your diff breathers are working.

I am leaning the other way with my D3 , am thinking of using good oils, maybe not the recc oil , and just changing them at more realistic Km's. I can only assume that my oils hadn't been changed, but the diff oil at 80,000kms wasn't looking the best....

This is what I used
F-Diff = 0.61 ltrs
R-Diff = 1.1 ltrs
Transfer case = 1.7ltrs

have used about 14 ltrs on the gearbox so far and will be ordering a new filter and doing another full change soon. Seems to take between 4.5 and 5ltrs just dropping and refilling.

Not much help reallly as seems about what Garry posted is what I used.

Cheers Ean

Just remember , for those with a rear Ediff the quantity is 1.6 litres, 1.1 is for the NON Ediff .Question is , what oil are you going to put in ?
