Head Lamp Guards

Has anyone got the LR front headlamp guards - fixed or hinged?

Are they a worthwhile option and do they offer a good amount of protection from stones/birds/sticks or are are they a waste of time?

Are the fixed guards hard to remove or clean behind or are the hinged a better design?

I have the ones that swing down, they were original designed for the TDI300 and TD5 Defenders, the ones offered by LR for the Puma are the drill into the body work type, The swing type ones i have are only available as a full front and rear set as far as i can remember..but you dont need to drill the body work, they fix to the light surround...

As for offering protection, I would say yes they would offer some protection, as well as looking the part, you can get the glass lens protectors too....

Some people would no doubt say why bother when you can replace a head light unit for very little cost, so its really down to what you want, not anybody else...

Got hinged on the front of the MY12 Defender and they look the part. Not to hard to fit, but I would recommend a second set of eyes/hands as you mark the holes to drill. They use riv-nuts ,so do some research on it before fitting, if your a mechanical novice like me :).
Easy enough to clean without needing to remove, but the wide spacing between grills can make them useless to most smaller stones & stick. The light spread isn't impacted significantly from the them, but you do notice shadows at the sides only.
I understand that they might impact fitting additional lights near the headlight units & also may not be compatible with some bull bars. Looking at an A-frame winch bar in the future, so I stuck with the stock item on this.

I have clear plastic covers over my headlights.
more for protection against rocks though

Plastic ones were fitted to my rig, I removed them as they were old and reducing the light output. In eight years of touring I have never had either headlight damaged
