Fascinating! I see the battery was made in Oz.

What happened to the pilot?

from what i've read about a temp sheltor being rigged, the radio and clock having been removed, its possible he survived the crash and ended up wandering off after a day or two..... still listed as missing as far as i know

I assume it was military personnel removing the ammo.

Wow! :Thump:

That is extraordinary. It reminds me of the 'Lady be Good' (B-24 lost for 16 years) - interesting story.

That P-40 looks like an E or K model and the tail wheel appears partially extended. Well, if a crashed, basket case P-51H is currently on offer for $650k, I hope that find goes to a good home (and gets back into the air).

...where's me passport and shipping container :p

Matt.

And I suppose no-one's done a search? Obviously it would almost be guaranteed to find nothing, but it seems a shame.

story goes that it was on a ferry flight because it was damaged, and was flying with its undercarriage locked down

Are there details of its last flight etc anywhere online?

Bit late... unless you find his half-bedouin grandchildren wandering around the desert somewhere....

Um, actually, to find his body and give it a proper burial, you know, because he was serving his country during wartime and all that.
