Hi

I'm wanting to get a gas conversion on my Discovery 3 2007 V6 petrol engine.

Finding some quotes has proved difficult as it sounds that not many get done here in Perth WA. Out of about 12 phone queries I've had two guys only respond and they both havent done one before.

One of them mentioned that they can do a conversion for $4000 with an Alpha-Omega kit with a 12month warranty.

The other chap said he can install a BRC conversiotion kit for $4600 12 month warranty or a KME kit for $3650 with a 3yr warranty.

Both quotes are for an external donut tank in lieu of the spare tyre recess.

Has anyone had any experience with a gas conversion in WA??

Any response welcom and appreciated. Thanks

All D3 conversion kits need Australian emission certification. Therefore I suggest you google search for a possible kit supplier. I only know of a certified kit for the V8 engine.

I had a look at the Deacon website- looks good but it's in Victoria.

I actually called them to ask them some questions but when I called I was told that they dont do them at the moment as their installer had left and they are trying to find somebody to replace him.

Would you recommend a gas conversion>>? on the discovery 3 V6 petrol? It's hard even finding any anecdotal eveidence from people who have done it.

No I can't recommend anything either way as I have no other info on the D3. In any case it's going to be very expensive considering you need a tyre carrier as well. Try asking Deacon's for price estimates and if they are able to deal with a WA fitter.

See the Silver lining... great excuse for a cross-country drive. You could then tell us all of the savings to be had when doing the same route, petrol there and LPG/petrol - return...:p

HI

I did find one guy that said he could do it, but he had never done one before on a discovery 3 before so I have not gone ahead.

I can not find someone in WA that has done a conversion before.

Do you know of anyone that has done one?

Anyone who has good experience with fitting gas injection should have no trouble doing a D3 for the first time (like many of the vehicles I fit injection to are first timers for me) HOWEVER all vehicles post 2003 are supposed to have emissions certified kits fitted so unless you can get a kit supplied by Deacons you would have to ask your local RTA as to your local requirements for emissions certification.
My Adelaide based wholesaler only has certification for the V8, it is unlikely he will certify a V6 in the near future as our local gov't checking station no longer has a machine to test emission compliance.
Personally I would talk to these guys: Orbital Autogas (http://www.orbitalautogas.com.au/) as they are engineers and may be able to help with finding an installer.

The guys that converted my V8 have done a number of V6's. It was done by the Car Clinic at Nundah here in QLD. You could give them a call about certified kits for V6's.

The guys i have been talking to have not done a conversion and i think most of them have decided to leave it in the too hard basket and they dont sound confident maybe the land rover badge scares them off. the quotes i have got have been around the $4500.00 mark.

Have you been succeseful yet?
I've actually been pretty happy with my fuel economy although I've fitted a k&n filter and snorkel and threw some high flow cats and lukey in it

(and i never got a notice of your reply so sorry a bit late on the reply.

I had a Sprint Gas SVGI System fitted by Malaga Autogas 18 months ago.
The installation was good and the only problem was the tank installation in the back which was not normal.
Even if he hasn't done it before i think he has the knowledge and experience to to it properly

Mate there are plenty of 4.0V8's gassed up with SMPI and it works very well with that engine. The OP though has a 4.0 V6 Ford Explorer motor in his Disco 3...not so common.

HI
Just saw the post. So the snorkel and filter gave you a better fuel consumption- if so what was the improvement and what was the cost for the snorkel and air filter, and finally where did you get the snorkel done. Thanks, appreciate the comments.

In my opinion it has given me better economy my real world figures from top up to top up at the petrol station doing country driving im constantly in the low 11s and town work is in the 13-14 mark. Compared to old economy would struggle to keep it under 13 on the open road
Ordered the filter through repco think it was about $80.00 and if you didn't no they are reusable and I'm pretty sure they still have a million mile warrenty.
The snorkel was of eBay paid 160 plus I brought a few silicon bends to replace the hose it came with so all up about 200 and fitted it my self over a couple of frothys one avo.
