defender rims

hi all. i am a newish member as i have recently purchased a 96 110 defender s/wagon after being on the hunt for one for a few years.
first job i need to do is get new tyres. am looking to put 235/85/16 on the bus. the rims are 5.5x16x33. other numbers on the things are, FV2000727 and a dunlop or dunlap symbol which reads D1390. i have been trying to work out rim load ratings but to no avail. if anyone out there knows what these rims are and what the minimum weight rating for rims on one these defenders is that would be a great help.
i have been looking at purchasing some Dynamic rims 16x7HD and they have a weight rating of 1200kgs each. anyone used them?

G'day Jocky.The original tyres on your vehicle were 750-16 on 5.5 inch rims.The 235-85-16 are not suitable for 5.5 rims and can cause insurance problems.I am aware that some have fitted these tyres to 5.5''rims.The best bet is to google the main tyre manufactures and read the chart for yourself.The other option is fit disco 1 steel rims-7'' as they are same pattern also with 33mm offset.Here again this has been a bone of contention with some.This is the way I went years ago and have not had a problem,however,the decision is yours .I would advise to talk to other Deefer owners and get their opinion.Best of luck Lochie

The Dynamic rims are a popular choice for Defenders, it's probably what most go with.
The 1200kg load limit for a 110 is fine. Some of the after market alloy rims, like ZU have a 1400kg LL, but are much more expansive then the steel wheels.
I think -20 offset works well but should check on here before buying. I have 255/85 on 0 offset and they rub slightly on the radius arms on full lock and articulating.

Any landy supplier/wrecker should have them, they do come up for sale reasonably regularly and you shouldn't have to pay more than $50/rim. They come in either silver or white or whatever colour you choose to paint them.

You're going to be needing 6.5 rims... 130 or Wolf rims.

This Toyo product information sheet for its M55 235/85R16 shows approved rim width from 5.5 to 7 inches.

I reckon Cooper Tyres used to show the same several years ago as I distinctly remember these were the largest tyres that could be (legally) fitted on the old Landcruiser 5.5" split rims.
