Hi Guys and Gals, I am about to embark on a project to rebuild my fathers 1958 series 2 Landy. It currently drives and was only retrieved from the family property at the Bunya Mountains last weekend. It is original and has the original series 1 engine. The only non matching part of the car is the transfer case as it blew up about 10 years ago, and unfortunately it was sent to the tip. But anyways I will be pulling it down over the next few weeks and will post more pics when along the way. Can someone please tell me where the engine number can be found as there is too much oil and grease on the engine to find it.

Chassis number is 143800622

My plans for Ralph is to rebuild the original engine, replace all the wiring and redo all gaskets and bearings. Basically make him original without making him look like a show car as he will still be used for 4x4 and it would be pointless spending all that money only to scratch and dint him.

So a few things I will be after eventually during project would be;
- Steering box and basically all the steering components (as his are bent)
- Front swivel hubs
- Shockies
- Headlight panel and Bonnet
- Front bumper
- rear tailgate
- Full hard top roof.

Also does anyone know of anyone in Brisbane who can rebuild series 1 engines or at least prepare the block and head.

Sorry about the pic quality as my camera broke and I only have my phone.

Can't remember where the engine number is - I think it is somewhere near the front of the block and visible without moving anything.

For information on overhauling a Series 1 engine, see Scallops overhaul saga.

Thanks John, I read it and it will hopefully be a great help.

The engine number is just in front of the exhaust manifold - rubbing the block with emery cloth should reveal it,
