Winch solenoid pack - where to mount?

I've just finished modifying the non-winch bar on my 110 to take a Warn XD9000 winch and now I just need to decide where to put the solenoid pack....

Where's the most practical place to locate it on a 110? I've read of people relocating them to up behind the RH headlight to try and keep them up out of the water/mud as much as possible. Is it really worthwhile or am I better to just put it on the top of the bar in the "normal" position?

Do you want to operate the winch with the cable or from a dashboard mounted switch? In case of the latter, you can mount the solenoid pack almost anywhere, preferentially somewhere sheltered from the elements. In case of the former you will want to have it accessible in order to be able to plug in the cable when needed. The Warn solenoid packs are quite tough and can stand a fair bit of abuse, so mounting it beneath the winch should not be too problematic, if you are not doing a lot of deep-fording. Some of my mates have replaced their solenoid pack with an Albright contactor, as these are even more reliable. I have no experience with these personally.

I would have to disagree
The warn packs are crap and can't take mud and water and will fail if they get too much of it.
I always throw away the warn packs and buy the AllBright packs which are water proof and fit them behind the RH headlight . Easyer to do as smaller than the Warn pack. Then have a controller in the cab.

Get a set of Albrights & mount them in a sealed plastic box, behind the N/S/F headlight.

FWIW - That's what they did on the Camel Trophy trucks too.

That would definitely make sense from a cable length perspective, but I dont think I'd be able to stuff the Warn pack in there (i've got the LARGE washer reservoir which I'm pretty sure fills a lot of that space).

On the other hand, the Albright ones a lot simpler, and as Reads90 said earlier are much smaller so would easily fit.

Warns got a couple of configurations so assuming that (electrically speaking) that solenoid is the same as the warn units then yes, you should only need the one of them.

the washer tank can be replaced and relocated with an in door unit, a smaller bottle on the opposite side of the engine (my reply is generic for v8,suzi,tdi and td5 powered sheds)

There is less crap on the drivers side and less distance to the cab for the control switch , hence why they normally get put behind the driver side headlight

Junk the crappy Warn solenoid, get an Albright one and stick it in the battery box.

Then run the small gauge cables to the controller.

I have my remote controller in the front of the wing above the headlight and my in-cab control on the dash.

which is nice but whats easier and cheaper to run, the high current main wires or the smaller signalling control wires.?

I've had a Warn winch on the 110 County for about 22 years, living up north of Cooktown, it gets lots of use and lots of dunkings in mud and water. The Warn solenoid Pack sits in front of the winch....its yet to fail me....I control the winch with the remote cable/switch, either walking alongside in low ratio or sitting in the drivers seat, both positions work.

Here's mine...I tucked the warn solenoid pack in the drivers side guard and cut a new cover plate out of aluminium. I also have a cut out switch for the winch.

The picture also shows the shovel which is mounted on the drivers side guard.
