View Full Version : Wheel Cylinder nuts

I bought a new set of wheel cylinders for the SII, and they came without nuts. The parts book and workshop manuals refer to these as "special nuts", part number 243301. I can see nothing very special about the rusted remains of the old ones, they are not nylocs or the all steel self lockers with a built in lock washer on top. They seem, in fact, to be normally 5/16 UNF nuts. But they may not be the originals!

Does anybody know what's "special" about these nuts? Or is it OK to use either nyloc nuts or ordinary nuts with spring washers??

LRSeries list what seems to be a generic 5/16UNF zinc nut as being an alternative for 243301, so they don't seem to think they're very special!

G'day Warb. 7/16 nuts and spring washers are what's on my 2a. Nothing special about them.

Cheers Simon

That is my conclusion as well. Whilst I doubt that the temperatures will ever get to the point of threatening a nyloc, I'm playing safe. Bog ordinary cadmium plated nuts with spring washers have now been fitted......
