Biodiesel brewers in Bris

Does anyone know any? If they are proven to have made a quality product, I'd even be interested in hunting down WVO for them; especially if it made the diesel cheaper for me.

Minus lye treatment and washing? Won't it still have some acidic compounds in it if used untreated? What about particulate? If I used straight WVO, I'd want to make sure it was filtered first, surely.

Also, more importantly, isn't straight WVO a bit risky for injectors in cold weather? Or is it not cold enough in Brisbane to worry about it getting a bit thicker or solidifying?

get it while its warm, strain it, filter it, dewater it, blend it down a bit and its good to go.

Im currently running blend about 80% WVO and "contaminated" Tur from a mate at a small civvy airfield. esentially a 200L drum of waste makes a 1000L of fuel which in a tdi disco pretty much lasts from service interval to service interval.

fortunately for me, my service interval pretty much exactly lines up with the frequency of which he fills a 44 (sometimes I wind up with a jerry or 2 more other times the drums a touch light)

if you want to get a start on making it yourself look up the DR pepper biodiesel method.

I'm working on this myself, just made a deal with a couple of local pubs to get their used chip oil.
There is a lot of info on the net if you dig, some good and some oi not so good.
I spoke with Turner engineering in the UK (they do nothing but LR engine rebuilds) and they told me that they get plenty of engines in that have run on veg-oil. They said the engine oil gets like silicone rubber and blokes the lube channels. So keep an eye on the oil, maybe run a lighter weight.
Machines with Bosch fuel pumps work best ie. 200tdi and 300tdi, etc. The older ones with Lucas CAV pumps tend to clogg and don't lubricate as well. Never run on pure veg oil unless the motor is at normal running temp! Start and shut down on normal diesel or good biodiesel. It can be done successfully, however it's high mantainance (but then again so is any old landy).
Home brew fuel can be tested with equipment from most household kitchens.

Just remember that there is a bit more to it than just pouring it in your tank.

I thought the norm was to run a heat exchanger regardless. I don't know a whole lot about the finer details, but I'd be running one to "cover all bases". Injectors aren't cheap. ;)

for a disco or deefer...

if you run cost free processed WVO (as in filtered and dewatered only) with $20 of diesel in the tank to thin it out

Every tank of fuel you burn will let you purchase an injector
Every 15th tank of fuel you can replace the injector pump
every 30 tanks of fuel you can replace the entire fuel system from filler neck to injectors and back again.

This is all based on DIY costs, the current $1.51/l that my local is charging for 10% bioD and smart shopping for your parts.

In 3 weeks time when the price goes up because its school holidays or whatever excuse they want to level at us to justify the cost hike you can proably drop the # of tanks for the last 2items by one.

I've run fozzy on about that for about 3 years now and If the SWMBO hadn't decided she didnt need to account for the fuel usage anymore and spent the savings, I could have rebuilt him by now.

I've been making Bio' for the last 14 yrs in Brrissy, my last Tdi did over 100k on my fuel and the new Td5 is up to 60k . Only issues were non genuine fuel filters, they are "NOT" suitable for bio fuels,as the polymer in the paper breaks down and glues fuel pumps together,we have proven this on 3 different cars,and since returning to LR filters,the problem has dissapeared:D,I've learn't a few things since I started :angel:. If your still after some fuel,I occasionally have some spare!
