Decided to refurbish the boat & motor and get back into it after a few years of non fishing action, went looking for a new Alvey reel, nearly fell over when I saw the prices, most now are graphite, and don't look robust. Searched every 2nd hand shop in the area, found a 5" stainless backed star drive drag , with a drag release lever on the back for $ 35. Stripped & cleaned, plenty of vaseline on moving parts, happy ! Little bit of work on the boat, then 1770 & secret creek here we come! Bob

Well, decided to test the reel down the local creek [cabbage tree ck.] went to the local bait shop, a packet of frozen prawns $6  remembered the trawlers now sell their product from adjacent to their boat wharves since the Co-Op. shut down . Bought 1/2 kilo fresh cooked bay prawns for $2.50 , used about 1/4, ate the rest for lunch, caught 4 bream between 26 - 30 cm's , doesn't get much better than that! [ have to learn how to throw the cast net all over again, cut out the middle man] :D L.G., Bob

Bob,you will find its heaps cheaper buying prawns from a member on here.Yes I have used some of Ean Austals prawns for bait people:o:o:o:o:o.
Even buying them from a fish shop is cheaper than bait.
Coles sell a 1kg bag of baby octopus for $10.They go great whole on a 7/0 hook;);););)
