hi there ive just purchased a 2002 discovery td5 es i would like some new shoes for her the problem is it has factory 18"s on which look great but lack few options in a more off road type tyre. so am i best going for say a general grabber at2 at 350 dollars a tyre or should i sell them and get some more common 16"s.....

also found out the 2002 does not have diff locks is this a massive issue or is the electronic gadgety stuff adequate.

this is my first post i havent even picked my disco up yet but am very excited

Welcome!:D
Go have a look in the disco forum as you can buy/ get fitted a control to lock the centre diff. LR just left it off as they thought the TC was enough.
The 02 disco has traction control but if you want a rear or front diff lock you will probably want stronger axles/cv's. A specialist in brissy is MR automotive and they handle some of the maxi-drive/hytuff stuff and i have heard on here they are good.
You may want to block the EGR as a start this is simple and cheap to do on the td5. One idea for tyres , keep the 18's with highway tyres and get some 16's on a better offset with muddies for offroad work.
Have a read through the disco forum and they will help.
