I guys I'm looking at buying a mates p38 with a blown 4.6 in it! ( blown as in dead) I'm sure there would be other threads about this but I can't find anything,
So what I'm wanting info on is...
Putting either a Holden 5.7 or 6lt in it, is it possible/viable, would you put the Holden auto in with it? Is there an available adaptor plate? Any info would be great
Cheers

Search Rangerovers.net re. Ls1 conversion. It's been the dream/nightmare there for several years...no-one has really succeeded EXCEPT a couple of blokes in the UK who once had a website called performanceLS1 (now defunct). They did the job (sort of) properly and used the Rover 4.6 sensors in a LS1 V8. They retained the transmission but had to get a bespoke bellhousing specially cast and machined ($$$$$). The vehicle was then converted to run ULP/LPG.
Sad ending: they went bust -financially...
another mob in the UK (search this forum) offer a kit to re-engine the P38 with a TDV6 ...either 2.7 or 3.0 L ...again it's quite expensive in A$...

Much cheaper to rebuild a Rover V8 and have it worked at the same time.

Mark's Adaptors in Melbourne put holden motors into the classic rangies to a ZF, so maybe there's a possibility.
I'd be going with the holden gearbox, as the ones in the 4.6s were rated to 240kw, which you'll be pushing with a 6 litre in it (then you'd need an adaptor to the transfer, at which time someone will tell you to put a LT230 in it... lol) The only problems I could see is if you've a later model p38 then you've got CAN communications to the BECM. for the older ones i'm pretty sure all the connections (timing retard, battery etc) could be had off the holden EAT ECU.
I'd be interested to know how the blokes in England got the airflow meter scaling correct. Maybe a special chip.....
