I took my 130 in the other day to get some warranty items fixed. While in there I asked them to rotate the tyres for me.

When I picked the car up they told me they could not rotate the tyres as this would void the warranty (diffs etc). Each tyre and rim must remain on the wheel it was delivered with.

I asked why they bother delivering the car with a spare if I cant use it? And should I call Land Rover Assist everytime I get a puncture?

I am tempted to call them next time I do just to make a point.

They did not have an answer to that, he agreed it was silly but said it was policy. So there you go.

On a serious note - with open diffs any difference between tyres due to wear would have very little impact wouldn't it?

wow...

how insanely angry would you be if you had to make a warranty claim and they said "sorry mate, you used your spare tyre... no can do"

don't think they would ever do that though.

Every time my 110 is in for a service they ask if I want the tyres rotated, (a service they charge excessively for!)......

Hey

As a retired Land Rover service manager I find some of the decisions made by the factory to be rediculous to say the least, the tyre warranty is backed by the tyre manufacturer not Land Rover and the difference a tyre rotation will have on wear will only improve the overall wear and thus limit any warranty claims. The descisions made by some service centres in NSW are such that there is little if any common sense input into the warranty process and only frustrates owners with conveluted and out of touch rules.

Dad always jokes that you can rotate the tyres just by driving the car, pretty lame, sadly he doesn't follow through on that as somehow his back ones end up on the front and vica versa when he feels like changing them (rotating).

I have only had one experience with the canberra dealer but this does not surprise me given the experience I had. I have had the car serviced for the full warranty period (just about to end) at Trivett Alexandria. During that time I have replaced the standard tyres with 265/75 muds, replaced the rims, fitted a 2" lift, fitted DC front prop shaft, castor corrected radius arms, cranked trailing arms and added a heap of weight with drawers, roof rack, fridge etc.

All this and not one issue with a warranty claim when needing to replace three faulty diffs and a transfer case.

I think the warranty manager at the canberra dealer might not be the most pro-active customer focused soul.......

Would it not be sooooooo crazy to call Land Rover assist from Rudall River to change the spare to preserve your warrenty........... Nuts. I never had a problem in Perth with the dealer appart from a pioion oil leak being knocked back because I have a locker fitted. No complaints, but expensive.

yep agree with Chook73, I'd go to a different dealer if possible. I drive for an hour to go to my dealer. I pre arrange a loan car or just sit and wait depending on what's happening.
Alternatively I could drive just down the road to another dealer, but they are like chalk and cheese when it come to warranty and knowledge of the product they sell.

The handbook for my 2008 Puma states that tyres should not be rotated i.e. changed around.
The handbook for my 2011 Puma does NOT mention this.

I can't think of any valid reason for not rotating the tyres.

Ask the dealer to show you the service checklist for the 20,000klm service if I'm not mistaken it says part of the service is to rotate the tyres if required (note it doesn't say balance which still gets charged).

The hand book for my 2010 Puma says the same thing.

The dealer offered to rotate my tyres during my 30,000km services last week. I told them not to rotate the tyres, as per the book. Balance and wheel alignment only please.

When I picked it up, the service report included a tyre rotation.....

The only issue I'd have is if your running directional tyres, you can't change sides.

Do you need to carry 2 spares ??

I can just see it now... "I'm sorry sir but we can't honour your warranty claim regarding the differential failure because it appears you have turned left too many times."
