Evening All

The facelift Freelander 1 has an option for Long Range Driving Light kit (VUB500870). They are pods that fit on the bumper and stick out below the headlights.

They can be seen fitted here:
Freelander Fog lights or driving lights etc - Land Rover Zone (http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-fog-lights-driving-lights-etc-159614.html)

My question is, as they protrude from the front bumper, are they road legal in NSW? Or do they fall foul of these regs:
Vehicle standards and specifications (http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/regonewsandinfo/vehiclestandards.html)

I have never seen a Freelander with pods fitted in NSW, so would be good to know if they are legit before drilling holes in the bumper.

Regardless of the legality, I think the odds of your being pulled up for it are minuscule, seeing the blatantly illegal setups that I see virtually every day.

As they are a genuine accessory available at dealers there would be no issues.

Good stuff, thanks guys. Gives me the right level of confidence to take the drill to the Freelanders snout and fit these puppies.

Just hope the guy doing the rego doesn't bang his shin on them......

You will need to take the plastic bumper off - on the inside of it there is a template moulded into the plastic for the various accessories that go onto the front.

auto shops sell driving light brackets which attach behind the numberplate, ie Aunger ,the lights are mounted above, They protrude beyond the bumper bar, so how can they be legal according to the regs

For a couple of reasons opted not to fit the Driving Light Kit (VUB500870) but fitted the Fog Lamp Kit instead (VUB500960)

Freelander Front Fog Lamp Kit - 04 on - Genuine Land Rover at www.rimmerbros.co.uk (http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-VUB500960)

Very easy to fit until you reach the error in the wiring instructions in the enclosed fitting guide. A lot of scraped knuckles and swearing at the back of the passenger compartment fuse box and the pods work a treat.

Long story short; the enclosed instructions advise removing/replacing the wrong cable 'by location' but correct 'by cable colour'.

If you do intend to fit these, the corrected fitting instructions (Issue 2) are on TOPIx.
