welcome to the forum Fred :)

Most farm work in Australia for itinerant visitors is seasonal - for example fruit picking. Perhaps you could tell us more about yourself and what you are qualified for in a future post.

We look forward to reading about your Defender and your posting of some photos of your car and where you live http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/25511-how-post-photos-forum.html.

As a short explanation, posting photos requires you to open a photobucket.com (or similar) account, load your photos on there and then copy the links of those photos from that photobucket site into your post here.

Hi Fred.Welcome.
Many backpackers travel around Australia funding their travel by fruit-picking. There is a harvest trail and it follows the seasons as crops ripen. It can be a good way to fund your travel and see the country, if you don't mind doing some hot work for low pay to keep money in your pocket.
The following websites might give you some more information:

Happy to help.
If you want to stay in the one place that is possible in areas where there are crops all year around. For example, at Bundaberg in Queensland (four hours drive north of Brisbane) if you stay in the backpacker lodges they have a deal with the farmers to provide labour from their guests, so you can work as long as there is work available, but you must stay in the lodges. Its also possible in other places.
It's a good way to travel and work. If you have some money in the bank, then you can cut your living costs to match your income and get by, although you won't get rich. Lots of international students on work visas do it. More information here:
