View Full Version : Discrimination against D4s!

I went away with some Land Rover enthusiasts over the weekend, nice hilly country, steep climbs and decents, plus a few creek crossings.

By the Sunday afternoon, one of the members who was video'ing vehicles as they negotiated creek crossings and obstacles told me he only took still pictures of my D4, because it makes everything look too easy.

Wot a rip off.

It's blatant discrimination, can we lodge a complaint with the ADB?

Diana ;)

I thought you were talking about the Disco driver, outside of Wingham who initiated the wave to me (Defender) and ignored you ;).

I dunno, if you include RRS as a D3/4 in drag there have been quite a few spectacular wheel lifting videos on here.
Seeing they have almost no wheel travel they can be very spectacular on wombat hole climbs,as the traction control desperately tries to stop the lifted wheels spinning, before it overheats and shuts down.
This is while the RRCs , D1s, D2s etc just go up the hill with no wheel lifting.

I assume (hope!) that this comment is tongue in cheek!

All tongue in cheek I think.

It's a compliment to the D4.

It would overheat and shut down long after a Pajero Traction Control does. I'm amazed at how quickly they raise the white flag on obstacles, must be French electronics....

Regards Philip AAs a Defender, Series, RRc and recent D4 owner, all I can say is that so far, I have had less problems wading, traversing climbing and decending obstacles than other Land Rover models present

It is a matter of line and driver control.

IMHO Anyone who who wheelspins to the extent of burning out the vehicular functions, should perhaps consider whether they are here to use or to destroy their Rover.

Well said, Diana.

One thing that you soon learn is that you don't treat a D4 as if it is a Patrol (or a D1 or D2 etc). They behave differently and get through most things much more easily without the speed and heavy foot you might apply to a lesser 4WD.

The only thing that I have any trouble with is steep soft sand where the 33 inch tyres and perhaps lighter weight of the Patrol give it a big edge.

Totally agree Bob, and yes I believe the weight is a major contributing factor in deep soft sand with these vehicles, unfortunately.
There are a lot of vehicles that get into trouble when driven the wrong way:(

I guess we should do up a trip report for this weekend . We had a great time and the kids have never slept so much, the rougher and steeper it was the more they slept :D.
