Puma 4000km round trip from Sydney

Hi All
We completed a round trip from Sydney to Broken Hill, Menindee Lakes, Mungo National Park, Mildura, Echuca, Lakes Entrance, Merimbula, Canberra and back to Sydney.
The fender performed brilliantly.
We used 444lt of fuel at an average of 11.22lt per 100km.
I have uploaded a spreadsheet with 2 tabs for distance and fuel consumption.
Thought it may be of interest to some.

Hi Gav,
Sounds like a great trip - good to hear the Puma looked after you well.
I average just a fraction under 10L/100km, but drive with a pretty light foot.
Guess the difference is probably the rooftop accessories you carry and the touring load.

Gav, you mean to say that heap of junk TDci, with the lousy dif, crap gear box, and terrible build quality didn't **** itself 10klm down the road from home.

did you coast mostly on 100 or 110 for those figures. My guess is 100, though not bad I always assumed a TDCi would be more economical than the older motors. I seem to only get 11 to 11.5 out of mine.

Over Christmas/New Year we traveled from Sydney to Adelaide via the various coast roads (as best as possible), then onto the Flinders Ranges then took a more direct route home. In total was 5014kms. Hit about 12000kms in total on the 2011 Puma when we returned. Did not have a single problem. It is a machine!!!

at Xmas we did a 5000km trip to NSW high country and back with plenty of 4x4ing in the middle with no problem.
Very soon we have a 6000km ish trip into the desert and back, also expecting no problems.

Yep,amazing,lucky you didn't have to bleed the fuel system or have the electdickery play up or ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzz.I'm off to Broome tommorow,don't know how I'll make it without an isuzzu,LT95,Sals rear,Cooper tyres,Waeco,hold on,I need BFG tyres,Engal :eek: Pat

The rear mud flap did fall off with the corrugations between Mungo and Menindee, and ripped out a small part of the aluminium guard, but that was a small thing. Also if anyone has not removed their engine lift, after 3 years mine started to rub on a hose that it had not previously, so get in and do it before your next trip!
Mostly sat on 100km. The Mrs is half way along with baby number 1 so we took the whole trip nice and easy. :) Photos of mud flap and lifer engine lift below.

You're holding that mudflap like it's a trophy ... which, of course, it is! A character building Land Rover trophy:cool:.

Great thread. I've had my MY12 D90 for a month now and only done 1,200 kms, 450k of which were the drive home from picking it up. Now that I know it could survive a trip, I'll get to planning one!:D

(Actually, it'll be my support vehicle for the Australasian Safari, so will do a few thousand km in a week towing a decent size trailer with lots of gear. Unfortunately it won't be me driving - I'll be attached to a handlebar going much faster!).

BTW, just a note on my fuel economy. The first tank of diesel was gulped down at 11.5l/100km, the second tank was drank at 10.7l/100km and the current third tank is looking better again. The engine is obviously bedding in nicely.

Ripped my mudguards off on my first hard trip. I have since installed the original front bumper on the back and re-fixed the mud guards to it with angle.

The result is a melted mud guard from the exhaust. :(

I'll look for the engine lifter tonight.
