How many here use the earlier cub campers? The rego shows it as a trailer so no inspection is required, so my question is this...because it is recognised as a trailer is separate insurance required or like a trailer is it covered by vehicle insurance? Who covers theirs under a sepaeate insurance policy? Jim

You may find it is now classed as a camper trailer, the law changed a while back and you may need a blue slip and a check every year.
How long has it been out of rego:confused:
Also if you do have an accident, the vehicle insurance won't cover the camper section of the trailer.
Baz.

If the trailer/camper weighs more than 250kg. then it needs a yearly inspection in NSW and costs around $150+ for rego, under 250kg. costs around $50+ and no yearly inspection. Ring the RTA to confirm, if no plates and has been unregistered for a while a blue slip and weighbridge ticket is also required, Regards Frank.

Send us a copy of your rego papers and I'll take them down to my local RTA office and use them to argue why my 310kg trailer was not eligible for cheap rego ($50+) and no annual inspection and ask them to refund the cost of weighbridge ticket and blue slip, would be much obliged, Regards Frank.

I had a scrap here in ACT because the inspection station wrote 'camper trailer' on the inspection certificate.
Our RTA argued "it is either a trailer or a caravan. If you can sleep in it, it is a caravan"
So, it is registered as a caravan and costs around $160 a year. A trip over the weighbridge came up with 400kg - which was about 100kg more than I expected and what the compliance plate said...

AFAIK it is 750 kg laden or have brakes then it needs inspection, hence smaller trailers need no inspection and have cheaper. I never heard of the tare weight being the decider, but if you ring four different RTA branches you usually get four different answers.

I just bought a Cub Drifter in NSW and re-registered it in VIC. NSW rego showed last 12 months rego was $150. In VIC, I had to determine of the ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) was less than 750kg. That was the only criteria. If yes, then it met the requirements of a Light Trailer, rego equals $56, fill out a form, no inspection required. If more than 750kg, inspection required, more $$$. I took it that ATM equalled GVM and for the Cub Drifter that is 750kg.
NB; there was still 6 months rego in NSW, and a process to claim a partial refund that went something like this;
1. Pay to change over the rego in NSW.
2. Cancel the rego with a fee.
3. Fill out a manual Refund form and maybe you get some money back.
I called them and a helpful person who said the fees add up to $50, then I would get 6/12*150. About $75 back. I decided the hassle was not worth $25. FYI for others before going through the process to find its not worth it.
