Blend motor identification.

I am in the market for a blend motor. There are a few available second hand sold as single units. Some have a plug on the end , some have a cut cable. Some are described as 5 wire and others 2 wire.
The one I want is on the drivers side which controls the heat. What should I be looking for?

Blend motors have to provide feedback to the HEVAC panel so they have 5 wires. Two are for the motor supply and three are for the connections to the feedback potentiometer inside the case.

So are all 3 the same and interchangeable. I want to buy the right one before I start the job.

From memory they are all the same.
I have replaced just one at a time in the past.
Spade connectors can easily be fitted to the wires and this gives you the option of taking them out one at a time.

They are all the same. They have a piece of tubing on the cable to show which is which.

It's easy to release the connector pins from the plastic plug. Just use a fine jeweller's screwdriver to lift the clips. I can't put the pix up as I'm not home - the images are on my home PC

If you're replacing with 2nd hand, you will have a limited lifespan with the replacement blend motor. They are built for 500 movements and then the potentiometer gives up. Replacing it is easy, you can do it to your existing ones with a new potentiometer that lasts 5000 movements for 30cents - try Radio Spares

So what is the most common cause of failure? if its just the potentiometer likley to be stuffed I might as well just replace the existing one.

How do I know if its a 500 or 5000 sweep? RS dont list either Part PT 15 NV 10 K

I've pulled a couple of the motors apart and found that the brushes were almost completely worn away.

Replacing the potentiometer in one of those wouldn't make much sense.

Images for removing the pins from the connector. Use a fine jeweller's screwdriver to lift the plastic tab inside each slot in the connector clear of the retaining latch on the pin.
