HF, VHF and UHF RF power around D4

I have been looking at LR spec around the use or limitations of radiated RF power around the vehicle, specifically Disco 4 MY12.

I intend to run HF radio with Codan antenna mounted on a rear spare wheel carrier once fitted. Has anyone ever experienced any electrical issues around the use of HF radio while mobile, we are talking about 100 watts PEP.

Several late model EU vehicles have a very specific radiated RF rating at UHF, this is 300 to 3GHz.

I run a Codan 9350 off the back bumper and and an Icom IC7000 on my 1994 Vogue LSE Classic and have had no problems with the RF cranking at max power on the run.

You'd presume the D4 would boast much better shielded components than the my dual airbag, air suspension test mule classic...

Then again assume nothing as the old saw goes...

True, most late model vehicles have better EMC shielding, never had a issue running 706mrk2 at full power in a all bells and whistles Touareg, needed to ask.

How is the 9350 on the rear work? Best position is front, proven tried and tested. Now I will have to move it to the rear, once I decide on a D4.

Attached jpeg shows HF bumper bracket. Lifts 9350 whip well above roof line and tunes up nicely across the bands. Welded steel bracket, bolted on (plenty of conductive grease top and bottom). That takes care of the RF earth to the ladder chassis. RF earth strap direct to internal body chassis connection & then to Icom. Feed line to the HF from the Icom is less than a metre. Ferrite rings on connecting coax. The collapsible VHF/UHF whip is on the b pillar. The rangie bonnet and engine were already factory earthed by quality copper straps and I've had no ignition or injection system interference issues. Ferrite rings on my iphone input feedline too. The iphone is a very rf noisy beast.

Civilian front mount (bull bar) HF auto tune aerials of the wide 9350 type are illegal in Victoria btw. On obstruction of vision grounds.

You might get away with the new Icom 3040 for front mounting in Vic.
