Folks - I think I can safely say we all had a lovely weekend out....the weather turned to our favour, and the trip ran very smoothly. I thank everyone for their contributions to making this trip a very enjoyable weekend. :) I'd also like to thank the Haines family for having us as guests and making us welcome with delicious Pumpkin soup. Also worth mentioning that GuyG had a mechanical in his 1924 Bentley and as such, was a late starter but better late than never, it was great to see him and a few friends in their Rover. Well done and hopefully we'll see the Bentley another time perhaps. To have 20 vehicles run such a disciplined convoy, with regard to other road users, was a credit to all involved.

Thanks too to those who helped Stephen out on Saturday and then by returning his vehicle to him on Sunday morning. Your efforts are a credit to this club.
David got his lovely Jag going, and it was certainly a treat to see and hear this magnificent vehicle....not to mention the gusto with which he delivered the Robbie Burns Selkirk Grace before dinner - superb.

It was not the only Jag we saw though....lunch was spent at Brent Haines' property, where he had a couple of classics of his own to show us.....Brent's 1936 Roadster...

It truely was a great weekend. Thanks to all those who organised the event, especially Dan. Camping next to a pub - pure genius! I wonder how many old pubs there are in QLD with a nice paddock next to them??

For those interested, the vehicle was returned unscathed to its rightful owner this morning not too long after the patient himself was returned home after a careful watch overnight.

i too thank all for coming along
it was a leasurely drive and a good evening at the pub.
lovely to have a pub dinner and all the fun of the pub without any driving risks,
a beaut fire and great fun with friends.
i also add special thanks to glen and patsy for their efforts with our accidental trip ring in, and his problems, and all the others involved with that.
it was not until this morning that i learnt that his problem also could have been much worse, but for the strength of the car behind him which stopped his descent.
i didn't see that car, but hope it was not injured.
how ironic that a man drives an ambulance and joins our trip and goes home in anither ambulance.
something i do not want to see again,

Ok, I will update this thread tonight with my images, somehow, even the pub ones came out good!
Just a quick thanks to Dan for organising this ripper weekend. All the effort paid off big time. I am certainly looking forward to the next one.
Thanks to Josh for accepting my role as his passenger for the weekend. An exciting drive made even better cruising along the country roads in a range rover classic :cool:!
Thanks also to all the members who participated and contributed to making this the most orsum weekend ever :D
I felt bad heading home on Sunday afternoon, thinking about the members that could not attend or missed out on this trip, it was great drive, a great laugh, and as per the image I posted earlier, a great success.
I hope every member can make the next one, might just have to find a bigger pub :D
Cheers
Grimace
p.s. I will also do my best to PM some individual images to members, as I have so many portrait shots of everyone having a Flipping good time!!!

We had a fantastic time at the GCLRO 2012 Series Skinfull Historic Rally.
22 cars old to new running from Queens Park, Ipswich and our route took us to Boonah’s Dugandan Hotel, Lake Moogerah, via Mt. Alford, and the Tarome district.
The final leg of the rally had taken us to the Historic Rosevale Hotel, where we camped and had dinner at the pub.
Duke box raging, lots of singing and dancing (YMCA) Scary !!! Yes and much more !!
Huge dinner, Played pool, had a great laugh.
After an amazing night at the pub we ventured back to the camp fire, where the party raged on until the early morning hours.
Gary played us some Scottish tunes or tried:D with the Kilt on and Bag Pipes a blazing !!:o:D
Alot of very slow punters out of bed for breakfast, where Josh cooked us all up a storm of snags, scrambled egg and bacon !!
I did not have to drive the whole weekend !!
Louise would not let me drive the 2a the whole weekend: ?? Mmmm , maybe has something to do with The Camel recently ??!!
At least l could have a beer and not have to worry about driving.!!
Bit of Birthday cake after wishing Glen best wishes, we headed home.
I turned the computer on at 2pm, and woke up a couple of hours later in the chair.
I was knackered, but really enjoyed the weekend.
A special thanks to Dan from Louise and l, for all the effort you put into this weekend.
Thanks also to Josh for the Brekky !! :cool:
Fantastic time with great people !!

Our next destination was the Dugandan Hotel, where we were met by many, took the oppourtunity to take many photos and meet some fello enthusiasts
There were cameras everywhere!!!
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/9971/img3122medium.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/i/img3122medium.jpg/)
For very good reason;
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7590/img3123medium.th.jpg (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/img3123medium.jpg/)http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2840/img3129medium.th.jpg (http://img59.imageshack.us/i/img3129medium.jpg/)http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/5219/img3137medium.th.jpg (http://img854.imageshack.us/i/img3137medium.jpg/)http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/7460/img3141medium.th.jpg (http://img834.imageshack.us/i/img3141medium.jpg/)
Our next destination was to be Lake Moogerah, it had been just over 10 years since I last visited the lake and I must say it is looking fantastic.
Again the camera was out and I got some good shots just firing at random through the open window on the RRC;
http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/5006/img3156medium.th.jpg (http://img803.imageshack.us/i/img3156medium.jpg/)http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/5892/img3159medium.th.jpg (http://img571.imageshack.us/i/img3159medium.jpg/)http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/744/img3161medium.th.jpg (http://img812.imageshack.us/i/img3161medium.jpg/)

After we all fueled our bodies, mostly of hot chips smothered in chicken salt, we comenced the next leg of our epic journey. To the lovely acerage property of the Haines Family.
Ofcourse filled with the idea that I was going to get my cameras 999 remaining photos to change I kept shooting almost the whole way...
It was fairly green at times;
http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/2823/img3213medium.th.jpg (http://img441.imageshack.us/i/img3213medium.jpg/)
Convoy still impressive;

Random Josh;
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1695/img3241medium.th.jpg (http://img41.imageshack.us/i/img3241medium.jpg/)
The mountain range is insane in this area, the landscape is just fantastic. I could not help myself, I just kept taking photos. It was hard not to;
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/6302/img3246medium.th.jpg (http://img191.imageshack.us/i/img3246medium.jpg/)
The convoy had the same effect on me, I was blown away by the Snaking landrovers;
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/9487/img3251medium.th.jpg (http://img41.imageshack.us/i/img3251medium.jpg/)http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/7723/img3253medium.th.jpg (http://img534.imageshack.us/i/img3253medium.jpg/)
Upon arrival to the Haines property it was obvious everyone else had the camera bug;
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/9998/img3265medium.th.jpg (http://img42.imageshack.us/i/img3265medium.jpg/)http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/1963/img3269medium.th.jpg (http://img846.imageshack.us/i/img3269medium.jpg/)
Then we relaxed and enjoyed the home cooked pumkin soup;
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3739/img3271medium.th.jpg (http://img23.imageshack.us/i/img3271medium.jpg/)http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/8703/img3281medium.th.jpg (http://img51.imageshack.us/i/img3281medium.jpg/)
Looked over some impressive Jags;

Then departed, but not before a quick shot of the cows behind the elctric fence;
http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/5806/img3293medium.th.jpg (http://img403.imageshack.us/i/img3293medium.jpg/)
We travelled a short distance to our camp site for the night. A lovely grassed field, that just happened to be right beside a pub... The Rosevale Pub!
I didn;t know it at the time, but this pub was to provide further epicness to this already flipping fantastic trip.
So we all set up our homes away from home, and had a sit down to discuss our day so far. I took the oppourtunity to try out my new lense...
Of course taking another 200 photos :eek:
The first was of this lovely young lady whom had turned up in a blue i30 just for the pub dinner and camping;
http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/5012/img3313medium.th.jpg (http://img542.imageshack.us/i/img3313medium.jpg/)

http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/2298/img3315medium.th.jpg (http://img707.imageshack.us/i/img3315medium.jpg/)

This night was only just getting warmed up... actually what am I talking about we didn't even have a fire going yet.
But this was for very good reason, you see it was time to venture next door to enjoy the pub and all it had to offer... or was it all that we had to offer the Pub...
Stay Tuned!!!

OK.... So we were off to the pub. Although I had only had a very minor amount of drinks by this stage I still wasn't really paying attention to time, so have no idea what time we ventured to the pub. Time doesn't mean shiz when your having this much fun!
We got to the pub and it was decked out with gas and electric heating out the back, with a slight leak somewhere!
A juke box on the wall and a pool table for our enjoyment. But most important a bar... WITH BEER!!! :D
Inside the pub, doesnt it look warm!!
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3042/img3391mediumn.th.jpg (http://img135.imageshack.us/i/img3391mediumn.jpg/)http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5488/img3393medium.th.jpg (http://img10.imageshack.us/i/img3393medium.jpg/)
I don't know how much Sam had to drink by this stage, but its seems the resident cat (whom I now call Manuello) also had an equal amount.
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/5783/img3397medium.th.jpg (http://img152.imageshack.us/i/img3397medium.jpg/)http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6364/img3403medium.th.jpg (http://img137.imageshack.us/i/img3403medium.jpg/)
The camera was neglected for a while, as I ramped up the drink intake.
Everyone was having a ball, discussions varied greatly. The pool table got a work out, I also tested out the toilet block a number of times!
All the while Dan frantically organised a ticketing system for dinner and made sure everyone was accounted for.
We gathered around our dining destination choosing a seat in preparation for the chicken or steak that was en route.
Now the highlight for me without a doubt was just after the arrival of our tucker... When without hesitation, upped jumped Bruce (aka David aka Niner)...
What followed was an Oad to the Haggis, belted out with great passion. Honestly had all in stitches, I appologise, as I actually failed to get any clearer shots as I was ****in myself with laughter.

Now I can't recall the trip from the back of the pub to the camp fire, but I do recall the shenanigans continuing around the fire.
Notably Me and Pete almost killed Sam... Dave was coming onto me pretty hard as usual, he wants me more than Pete does.

Can't add too much to the report but we had a great time as well. Good company and a skinfull for a few :) (not me of course). Thanks to Dan for organising and of course everyone else for being good fun company. I took a lot of photos but put the camera away for the dinner which is probably a good thing. Just a couple of the photos need to be posted though -
This is what we were faced with before dinner :eek:, but the bagpipes were pretty cool :).

All the photos can be found here, I think there are some pretty good ones of some of the cars though some can be a bit repetitive. Still I figure it's better to let you all decide which ones you like :cool:.

Well the day didn't quite turn out as planned, Friday afternoon the spring on the starter decided to break, but we were able to fix/replace that, then to check the fluids eg gearbox - the front seat and floor have to be removed, then the top plate of the gearbox itself. Next refer to the manual to confirm how much oil is required. All of this was somewhat easier that the rear diff, admittedly we already had the floor out to fix the starter issue. All back together started ok, then was able to move it outside to clean and polish ready for the next days adventures.:D
Saturday morning arrives, the car is out ready for the guests to turn up, the roof is down as it was sunny - I wasn't quite sure the night before whether it was going to be roof up or down weather. I had many warm jackets and raincoats packed for the days trip.
And we're off, first gear change was good, into 3rd ok also, but trying to get back into 2nd took about 6 goes, double clutch no syncro, have to have correct car speed and revs, apart from the fact I haven't driven the car in over 2 years it didn't go too bad - at least I didn't have to stop and start again which in the past I have. Its times like that when you wish the passenger would stop talking so you could try and concentrate on driving the car - he didn't.:wasntme:
All was going well until I noticed that the water temp was rising rapidly so I pulled over before it got too hot. At which point it dumped its coolant and it was game over for this car. What does one do in this situation - lift the bonnet and look like you know what you're doing. There were no split hoses, leaking pipes etc. Interestingly only 2 people stopped to check we were ok - the first in an old escort panel van, and the other who claimed to have a trailer that he could bring back - we kindly refused as we have racq cover for this type of thing. So a call to my father you came to the rescue but equally couldn't see any issues. Obviously something was wrong but as yet it still isn't absolutely clear what caused it. So it was tow truck time to get the car home. Dad kindly offered to go home with the car and we continued on in another classic but this time it was a early 70's P6B Rover 3500. This car needed a good drive and that is exactly what it got:cool:.
When Dad got home he filled the radiator and drove it into the garage but I think we're going to have to remove the radiator and have it re-pressure tested and also remove the water pump to check its operation and the seal behind it onto the motor. Might be ready for next years trip.
So back to the trip after the Yamanto exit we were behind a white 130 which looked like Killers and followed it all the way to Boonah until we had to duck off and get fuel and check a few other things as we weren't intending to bring this car. We caught up with the convoy just after they left the photo shoot.
The rest has pretty much been covered in the other reports. We didn't camp the night although it looks like a lot of fun was had. I will add a few photos including: the broken spring; the gearbox - just incase you want to see what a 1924 gearbox looks like; downstream from Lake Moogerah dam wall; Rainman in the back on the freeway and the car itself.

What a beautiful car, Guy. Such a shame it had a mechanical. SO - decision made - I am going to put together another GCLRO historic vehicle rally, in 2013, simply in the hope that this magnificent vehicle might come along with us to admire. I have a vision... a group of us, sipping Bollinger, while the sun sets, on yet another beautiful campsite.... somewhere.... with another lovely old country pub next door....and my Matilda, all new engine, cuddling up to your magnificent Bentley...:D :)

What makes you think I can't find somewhere else just as good? I am already all over it......
The only way to make the Series trip the club's best and most anticipated club event on our calendar (and why not have this aim?) is to keep it fresh.....This involves not only new places and faces, but eventually, other members organizing the event so their ideas are injected into the concept.
I agree though - the 2012 event will be hard to top....and so it should be, because a deal of time and effort went into making it happen as it did; so it is very heartening that so many good people came along and made the weekend the memorable occasion it was. As planning is already underway for next year, we should be able to do even better. So I thank you - each one of you, for making the occasion as it were.
But here's to making it even better in 2013. How does a Pig on a spit, in a garden out the back, of a different SEQ country pub, with free camping in a paddock adjacent, with live music, sound??? ;)

I'm sure there is...and no reason other people cannot organise more Series orientated trips :)... But from my perspective, I see the need for a special, annual, Series and Classic trip as we held last weekend.
I feel there are several reasons, along with several benefits, to do just this; firstly, because of the sheer amount of effort that goes into all the detail, making sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed, it's an event that is best held annually! I contacted the Police, the council, the town Crier, the local press :D...the list goes on...to get this to work as it did. Then there is the time to find new places, routes etc that will work for not only historic Land Rovers, but classic and vintage vehicles too...this all takes time and effort to work through. If such preparation is not done, a lesser trip is the result.
Secondly, a special annual event will hopefully provide an incentive for more members to expand their repertoire and perhaps buy a Series / Classic vehicle. If people do, they will soon discover that these vehicles are different to modern ones (!), so preparation and vehicle knowledge become more important. Readying oneself for that special annual event is a good motivator. :)
And when such time and effort does go into a trip, we get a result like last weekend - a trip that I'd say was pretty much unique in the club's repertoire.
What I think we need is not so much replications of my exact trip, but other members to stand up, and devise their own trips that are a little bit different to the same old same old...come up with a theme perhaps, a new experience for attendees etc....This is starting to happen with the annual jamboree we are hosting, and I see "my" trip as fitting into that niche too. :)

I felt bad heading home on Sunday afternoon, thinking about the members that could not attend or missed out on this trip.
Yeah, no worries Grimace. My family and I are 'country kids' and were out on a farm out west during that weekend (we had arranged it months earlier). We grab any opportunity we can to get out on the land, just love it !
Here's a pic of me operating the cattle crush.

Thought I had better give an update on our vehicle seeing as it didn't quite make the trip. There were a couple of issues that we discovered, the main one being a split in the rear of the bottom tank of the radiator - this has been fixed, however there is still have a small leak elsewhere - so am unsure whether it will make it to All British Day. I will attach a couple of pictures from a trip last Sunday:D - lets just say that there were some excellent cars to be viewed[bigsmile]:BigThumb::cool:. There are apparently 12 WO Bentleys in SE Qld, 10 of which were present.
If you look at the WO Bentley pic the 7th car from the left is a Blower Bentley. I believe there were only 50 made and this is the only one is Australia.
