I'm not seeing any ads. Are you running AdBlock Plus?

Hi Ron,
No I am not running ad blockers, I don't mind a few ads - I know they help pay the bills, It's just that lately they seem to go on forever.

Nothing going on in the background here (I hope) but I am on satellite, which does vary in speed a bit, doesn't seem to slow the ads though.
Hmm, problem seems to have gone away (someone heard me? :p)

When I am on a slow connection (usually at work) the ads sit there for a while as the page loads, so I would say it is your connection or something similar, not the site itself. On my home connection which is half decent, the page loads up the same as it has always done - quite quickly, so I know there is a difference depending on your connection.
Google 'Internet speed test' and see if you connection is up to scratch.
Cheers - Gav

It's going back to what it was a few weeks back, downloading just the ads and then waiting for ages for the page to load, sometimes it won't load, still have the problem with the disappearing cursor and the top half of the text missing when typing a reply to a post, regards frank.

Glad somebody else has raised this matter. Thought I might have suddenly had problems with my system.
Just takes for ages to download the next page.
Seems to have just started. All was OK a few days ago.
I am in suburbia on a good broadband connection.

As bacicat says it is most likely my download speed varying as I know it does.
NBN - Bring it on!
It's ok I am over my dummy spit now :p

To view your post, the whole page was 225Kb, it took me 3.5secs and loaded 200 odd images.
The page loaded complete,
good? bad?

It took my computer almost a minute to load the first page and then it wouldn't load the second page at all, and what's this thing where the cursor disappears and only the bottom half of the text shows when typing a post.
Doesn't do it on any other forum or web-site only here, Regards Frank.

Inc., I'm no computer whizz, but these problems have only occurred in the last few months out of the years i have been on this Forum. The only changes made this end is upgrading to this latest version of windows about a year back, have anti-spyware, malaware, Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG ant-Virus, all up to date and a total scan every week, as it only happens on this site is there something I'm missing or need to correct this problem, Regards Frank

surprised it does anything at all...
do yourself a favour get rid of everything other than microsoft security essentials and see how your system behaves.
you have multiple anti virus progams running in memory, multiple anti malware programs running at the same time all happily confusing each other :p
i bet you have something like belarc or advanced system care running as well?
if so get rid of it and see where your system is at then..
try it for a week and see how you get on...

Inc., I have closed down everything except microsoft security essentials, it took me 2 minutes to get back to here to tell you, so speed hasn't improved, I'll let you know how the disappearing cursor goes, Regards Frank.

I have only Microsoft Security Essentials (all other anti-everything has been hopefully removed) but I have noticed the cursor disappears when composing or editing posts. It's where you place it but in invisible ink:D:D. Also if I type a quotation mark and a few other characters it does not appear until I press the space bar (but I don't want a space). Did the disappearing trick as I wrote this. If I "move" the cursor off the composing area to the blue surround you can then see the cursor:confused:
Lenovo laptop, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, tethered to Galaxy SII on Optus network.
Any ideas why?

I have to suffer explorer and windows 7 at work, and in the reply box the cursor never shows/works properly, have to position by mouse click
also, this is the FEWEST online I've seen in a week, just over 200,,
but over a hundred are webcrawlers,
every day this week the number has been well over 400

Ie9 or 8
I knew firefox has issuses but have never seen a cusor problem on the win 7 with ie 9 myself
But i rarely see the speed issues and it took months to meet stephanie!
Server load is 30% max so it sounds like something up stream is playing up again i hope

Firefox or internet explorer?
The problem seems to be with Internet Explorer 9. Five minutes ago I logged on with IE and it was happening then. Gave up on Firefox when I had a PC - used to be good then became very slow to load.
I have been trialling Google Chrome as some other annoying things were happening with IE (as always). So logged off IE and on with Google Chrome.
"This was typed with no problem using Google Chrome".
On GC I can place the cursor anywhere and it is visible whether the mouse is on or off the window (Mouse does however change to an arrowhead when off the window) while on IE the cursor disappears and shows as a line (not arrowhead) when off the window.
Hope this helps.

Strangely, just last night at home and today at work I'm getting delays when opening Australian Land Rover Owners - AULRO.com (http://aulro.com/) - I'd always thought it was a localised issue for individual users (maybe it still is!).
Never had an issue before, and nothing's changed on my end. Using latest version of Firefox. I'll keep monitoring.

Update: When trying the enter the thread about Windows 8, it took about 30 seconds for the main body frame to load - the ads and banner loaded quickly. When hovering over that area, the bottom status bar in Firefox mentions waiting for digitalniche.com.au. Perhaps that that might be the cuplrit?

by its very nature and the size of the database it is wading thru this place is never going to be super quick with 400 odd people onboard.
30 secs..... slow but okay for what it is in a high use time slot....
2-3 mins as frank was saying is a whole different ball game
i can make it run quick as a flash but it wont be worth coming here because the useful addons and the content from way back when till now will mostly be gone :p
a lot of speed issues are related to your own settings on thread views as well
if you have it set to 30 days it will be quicker than a 90 day view etc etc.
it is what it is.... i am not changing it substantially just to make it 20 seconds quicker.
sure there are third issues from time to time like overloaded ad servers but thats the nature of the beast and i have no control over those third party issues.
i keep the place running on the best hardware i can afford with the income i get from the place and more a lot of the time.
and to be frank i have yet to see a 2 or 3 minute load time myself
30 seconds maybe in peak hours and maybe a minute once or twice when the last outage occurred but never anything like i see some people complain about.

Inc., last night (early this morning actually) the loading just got slower and slower, the last post I clicked on still hadn't loaded after 2 mins. or so, so I went and made a cuppa. When i came back 3 or 4 minutes later it had loaded the the top bit with the ads. So I left it till I went to bed and it was still in the same spot an hour later, it hadn't crashed as I could still move the cursor around, so I closed AULRO down, the rest of the sites I usually visit were working ok. Got rid of the spyware stuff and AVG and am just running Microsoft Security Essentials, no difference and cursor still disappearing, Regards Frank.

you obviously have other issues beyond my control
taking all the extra duplicated antivirus and anti malware stuff off has to make a difference to the way a system runs.. unless there is some other heavy infection or software issue
you might want to download and run combofix (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/)
