I have my D1 Detroit and Truetrac I want to swap into my D2. I know the Detroit and truetrac's are the same but I thought the pumpkins were different and need to be fitted to the right one.
Could someone confirm if the whole D1 pumpkin can be fitted to a D2 or does the Detoit/Truetrac have to be swapped and setup in a D2 diff. It would be easier if it is a straight swap.

I am not entirely sure on the setup of the lockers, however after I blew the rear diff in the D2 I had it swapped with a spare from a D1 I had in the shed.

Diffs are the same, pumpkins are different, you will need to swap centers

You sure? I was also under the impression they would bolt in.
I also wouldn't have had the fuel tanks as change over.

Keep your Ignition for a spare for your D2 just swap over the wiring and your set.

What about my heavy duty steering arms?
Will they go from my D1 V8 to a TD5?

A question for JC.
I just want to clarify the diffs. The D1 and D2 diff centres are the same and can be swapped. If this is the case I can put my Detroit and Truetrac from my D1 straight into my D2 with out having to set them up again. I thought I was going to have to pull the crown wheel and pinion apart and refit into the D2 diff. If not it's going to be a lot easier.
When you mean centres do you mean this whole piece as picture or is it called the pumpkin. Just trying the get my terms straight. The example is a D2 front diff centre or is it a pumpkin.

On the bullbar, I know JC will set me straight but I thought the holes were different between the 2 chassis. Same place, side on but in line vertically vs angled.

D1 bull bars will NOT bolt straight on to a D2.

Yep, first example I could find. I was looking at getting one to set up with a locker so I could keep the car on the road until I could fit into the car. I should have asked for a forum discount:D. A bit far from home though.
I'm hoping I don't have to do this now if my D1 diffs fit.

What about the Cruise Control ECU?
I bought a new original LR one a couple of years back; will it replace the 10yr old one in the D2?

D1 bull bars will NOT bolt straight on to a D2.
err, yes they will depending on srs compatibility and brand of bar, as some 'city use' d1 bars are too close to the grille in a d2 and require a few trimming mods:cool:.

OK, happy to be corrected.
I just remember when I was selling my D1 bar I could get more for it than D2 bars were selling for?

would like to know which parts from a 98 D1 petrol will fit a D2 (diesel).
they are :
airbag compatible ARB bull bar - yes, though some not according to JC's post
full length roof rack - yes
tow bar - no
long range fuel tank - my feeling was it wouldn't but Will reckons it would. any other responses?
corner/saddle fuel tank - same as above
front and rear diffs with tru-tracs - yes
5 spoke rims - no
thanks.
thanks for replies everyone. i hardly ever pull the laptop out so check things on my iphone which for all intents and purposes is too small to be doing too much typing/replying on.
i've updated what i believe to be the answers. jury seems to be out on the fuel tanks. any follow ups on these?

Thanks, that's very interesting to know. You see D1 diff centres on ebay for as little as $20 where D2 diff centres are around $200. If they are the same people can save some coin and get the D1 diff.
Now if only my D1 Maxi Drive axles would fit:mad:.

Fuel tanks are not interchangable between the D1 and the D2, unless you cut the front bracket off the chassis and weld on new mounts to suit. We have done this before when fitting a TD5 to a D1 chassis, using the D2 tank and pump - quite a job.

Just to clarify, when i said the D1 tanks could be made to fit the D2 i meant, they could be 'fitted' would require customs brackets and some chopping around, also the pump from the D2 would need to be fitted, but i doubt they wouldn't require modification, would be much easier to sell the D1 tanks and start again, the term fitting though can apply to anything, as in most things could be made to fit (essentially just a custom job), the context i used it in was as if a fitter and turner was to do it, or whatever.

Physically they will fit into the space once the front bracket has been removed.

Will a D1 B pillar fit a D2?
My D2 had a rest on it's roof.
What about a D1 drivers door for a D2
MR LR

I'll let someone more informed clarify, but AFAIK the actual body structure of the A and B pillars and the door internals, are still classic Range Rover in a D2, so technically you could cut and shut the bits together AFAIK, theoretically the doors should fit, but they won't line up in the panel dpartment as they have a different skin. Why don't you just order the proper parts form a wrecker, they may even do a part excahnge for your D1 parts, but i think you'd have to be an idiot to try and make a D1 door work on a D2 as it will end up lookign stupid and will need to be hacked about a bit to fit i would imagine.
