Hi all,

I'm seeking some advise please.

I will be heading up to Cape York leaving mid July for 4 weeks. I plan on doing the old Telegraph Rd from Bramwell Junction north and possibly Lakefeild National Park.

I currently have the factory fitted side steps on my D2a. I've got a 2" lift and running 255/70/R16s (which gives an extra 1/2" clearence over factory size).

My question is:
Should I remove the side steps to allow for better rampover angle or should I leave them on to offer some protection to the sills and help the wife and kids get in?

I know rock sliders are the obvious choice, but lets pretend that they're not an option.

Matt.

I own a D2a fitted with 255/70 16's ... with no side steps & no lift ... I would say definitley yes !

Has it got SLS or coils ? SLS in offroad mode will get you some extra ramp over, not much, and everytime you go over 35km/hr it will lower back to standard height, requiring you to reselect offroad again when you drop below 35 ...

Sliders with nerf bars ... yes. Factory sidesteps ... no.

I would be leaving them on.. some protection for your sills is better than no protection at all.. :)

x2 I have a standard height D1 with side steps and I've taken rubber off the side steps and left quite a few scrapes on the underside of the steps, but that beats hitting the body!!

They also help deflect the stones and gravel from being thrown up against the side of vehicle
