It's my mate's 300Tdi Disco again.......
Despite the quick-fix on the key-fob question, there is still a starter problem....and it may be linked to other phenomena.
His car still displays the following symptoms:
Electric windows cease functioning
Aircon fan ceases functioning
Twice this has happened and each time coincided with a new starter motor burning out. The teeth on the flywheel ring gear and those on the starter motor show that they have plainly been fighting a pitched battle against each other for some time. So it looks like either the starter has not been disengaging properly, or that it has been (through some electrical gremlin) being activated whilst the motor is runnung and meshing, spinning at a million miles and hour, then burning out.
Does anybody have any Discovery-wisdom to share on this? I have been checking for shorts engaging the starter relay and the like, but the electrics are a little more complex than my IIA's home-made wiring and those in my beloved 200Tdi Defender....
I'd appreciate your thoughts. I am off now to help my mate buy a little runabout to lessen the pressure from his wife to get rid of the Land Rover....
Thanks,
John
