hi all
planning to get a rear ashcroft diff lock for my 2002 110 defender
how do i find out if it has a salisbury or rover axles

Basically, if it is the same as the front one it's a Rover diff. Salisbury are much bigger and also have a bolt on plate on the rear.
I think your model is maybe the last of the Sals?

110 have never had a rover diff in the rear, if it's not a sals it's a P38 diff. It looks similar the rover type. Being an 02 I think it will be a sals.

And the bolt number is 10. I have a sneaking suspicion this may be why they are also referred to as a 'ten bolt' diff.

Plenty of diffs have 10 bolts. The GM 10-bolt diffs are usually referred to as a "10 bolt diff"

EDIT - and the Salisbury is the same as the Dana 60 in that image - however for some reason they have rotated the image 90o

no its nothing to do with the cover, And its not a Landrover Salisbury thats called a 10 bolt diff,
A 10 Bolt Diff is the Holden Salisbury, because it has 10 bolts holding the crown wheel onto the carrier.
A landrover Salisbury (dana 60) would be a 12 bolt diff, but yes there is 10 bolts holding on the cover

The GM 10-bolt is named for the number of bolts on the cover; ring gear diameter is 7 1/2 inches. Variations of this can be found in the rear of GM S-trucks and some Isuzus, and in the front of S-trucks.

Essentially the number of bolts holding the cover on is an irrelevancy. Just because it's been published doesn't neccessarily make it correct.:)

The GM 10 / 12 / 14 bolt diffs are clearly named by the number of bolts on the diff pan. AFAIK the 10 and 12 bolt both use 10 bolts to hold the CW on. Not sure about the 14.
ugu - watch out ;) - Diana threatened to infract me for calling her a pedant :D . I would prefer to be a pedant than someone who spreads BS. And despite your assertion, I get my hands oily as often as the next bloke.

I readily call myself a pedantic old basket and I somehow think there is much more to it than a flipant quote would have us believe.
In my game it has become entrenched because if I ignored things so as not to be pendant, people could die and not wanting to be called pendant would be no defence. :mad:

FWIW I know several 2002 110s with p38a diffs..
In any case if you are unsure post a pic and many can identify.
