She would make a brilliant farm ute with the 3.5 V8 rumbling away. I would love a stage 1 but I've already got too many land rovers hanging around the place. I'm only 15 and I've got a Series IIA a Series III and a Range Rover. I've heard that they are far better for heavy loads than a normal series.

Looks like a nice Stage One. Any mods or is it pretty original? What is one worth like yours on E Bay these days?

It's all stock standard, however it is running on straight gas, I have 600 acres of really steep country and it still surprises me where it will go, even loaded up.I bought it unregistered with a new radiator, brakes, wiring and shocks and bushes for $1800, pretty good value I thought! And it sounds bloody terrific!

Gee they certainly have increased in value over the last 10 years. I picked mine up for $1500 and it has been an awesome vehicle. It is only now that I am spending some money on it to get another 30 years of life out of my 1981 Stage One. And I have to agree Summiit that the sound of that Rover v8 purring away in a Series 3 leafer is an awesome sound. Perfect vehicle for what you are doing with it on your sheep farm.
Regards Warrick.

Tim you need to fix up your rear number plate.
Pop - I am thinking Warricks Stage 1 is ex Navy if that colour is original.

Hi Pop and Gary,
it is interesting that you have both thought that there is a possibility that my Series 3 Stage One could be one of the RAN Stage One's. From what I have read there is not much known about there involvement in the ADF other than those 4 images posted on REMLR.
My Stage One was purchased in Darwin by a good friend of mine about 20 years ago. He sold it to me around 10 or so years ago. The vehicle is original in colour other than the door tops that rotted out and were replaced and hence the reason for the black colour. Do either of you know if any of these RAN Stage Ones have been identified since their decommission from the Navy? Also do you know if there were more than 2 Stage One's in ADF service?
Originally when my mate Aaron purchased the vehicle in Darwin he was told that it was an ex Air Force vehicle and I have always thought that it may well have been not really knowing anything about military land rovers. It has only come to my attention recently through a Stage One Forum subscriber that there was those images on the REMLR website. I must admit the vehicle with the white roof does bare a very similar likeness to my Stage One.
I would be interested in knowing how many Stage One v8 Truck Cabs painted in the light blue/grey colour were sold in Australia. I have not seen any in that colour and to be honest not many Truck Cabs in general. Would appreciate any feedback from forum subscribers.
I have posted couple of images of my Stage One for reference.

I cannot speak for the ADF overall but there were quite a few Stage 1 wagons and utes used by the navy. (certainly many more than two)
They were all the Navy sky blue colour (not the landrover sky blue colour) with white roofs.
They were civilian versions with no military aspects but some may have been subsequently fitted out for their use as Clearance Diving support vehicles, gunnery range vehicles etc.

Thanks for the information Gary. I contacted my mate Aaron who I purchased the Stage One from and asked if he could remember any of the details of its past. He purchased it from a private owner who told him that it was an ex military vehicle. Aaron thought he was told it was ex RAAF but could have got it wrong. He is confident that it was ex military originally though.
The vehicle was purchased in the Northern Territory in 1992. Not sure if it would have been in RAN duty in the Northern Territory as I have no idea about Australian Military installations or operations. Anyway it certainly has added some interest into the history of the vehicle and also the Stage One's role in Australian Military history. It sounds like you do know a bit about this history and that there was more than just two in service. Were you in the RAN?
I hope that more information can come to light as from what I can find there is very little knowledge on the REMLR site and possibly anywhere else.
Regards Warrick.
