Seriously, this happened about 500m from work this morning. Front left tyre blew out on the Tdi and I stopped within about 30m. Was doing less the 50kph at the time so no dramas, just annoying. One less Cooper ST to replace :D

looking closely at the photo - did you REALLY stuff it with grass to keep driving? Remember when was it Malcolm Douglas or one of the Leyland Bros................

I've heard stories about ST's blowing out at speed, just wondering if this is limited to ST's or does it relate to the whole Cooper range, only asking because i've got STT's on my Disco with an ST as the spare!!! the P.O. of the tyres (second cousin, had them on his Disco for a trip up north gave them to me when he got back) said he had ST's before the STT's and had a few blow outs, only slow work but they have a thin sidewall.

I've seen ST's disintegrate with ply separation but in this case it's a 7 1/2 year old tyre with about 20,000km on it and has seen a good amount of off road use in hot conditions.
My personal opinion of Cooper ST's is that I won't buy them - uneven wear, noisy, easily chipped tread - the one's on the Tdi came with the vehicle when I bought but I did put them on my D2 and had a similar experience with them.

Dunno. How much tread is left on it?

Ron, you have all people know we don't condone "What is it worth" threads. Whilst he hasn't mentioned a price, this is a definite ploy by dm to over inflate the price of his wheel.
.....well you sure won't over inflate it with air :lol2: :p

Do you want some tread for new sandals?

I was a fan of Cooper ST's until recently. On a trip from from Perth to Adelaide in May this year, I had two of them delaminate.
First tyre that blew had done about 80,000 km, but still a few mil of tread left before wear bar. Second tyre had only done about 40,000 as this was used as the spare.
Car was lightly loaded, with ambient temperatures in low to mid 20's with pressures of 40 PSI.
First tyre to go, was 5 km north of Norseman. I felt a slight vibration in vehicle, and thinking front drive shaft problem as the tyre delaminated.
Second tyre was East of Ceduna, with no warning, other than a sudden loud bang.
Both tyres had most of the tread removed from the carcass, with the flap of tread causing extensive damage to right rear of vehicle.
Ironically, I was looking to put on a new set of tyres, of which the new Cooper ST Maxx were on list. After this problem I went and got 5 BF Goodrich KM2's. There is no way I would use or recommend Coopers again.

you could turn it inside out and make it into a swan...then you could sell it.

How 70's! :Rolling:
I'd forgotten about those horrid tyre swans that used to be everywhere.

I'd give it a coat of tyre black first...

haha looks just like my cooper STs.
Seriously, I don't know how they have not got themselves into many class actions.
