So
The park has been open a couple of weeks now
It was a pretty poor wet season and I had fears that recruitment up the Normanby Kennedy and Laura rivers would be poor
Also the late open meant we had already had a cold snap that generally shuts the barra down a little
Not no matter! Plenty of nice barra about - heaps of rats which is good to see
Water levels are definitely low for June but seems fish are pretty thick and feeding for the moment
Have spent the past 3 weekends in different locations and found fish easily enough - some pics attached - all fish released (imo freshwater barra taste terrible - I also think saltwater barra are the most over rated eating fish in the North!) my best thus far for 2012 is a very chunky 83cm that smashed a richos sardine - no camera at the time so youll just have to believe me!
If you are in the area and want a few tips track me down
