I know there is already alot of these post floating around the internet but haven't seen any in this specific context...

I have an old warn xd9000 which needs a full rebuild and a new control box (also steel cable - which I prefer to change to plasma)

not knowing the price of getting this done, (i'd assume +$500 with the rope)

would I be better spending a bit more up front and getting a new tigerzII or investing the money into the warn.

I'm not trying to spark another warn vs other brand winches debate. just trying to get some sensible thoughts on my situation

I guess you should ask yourself how often your going to use it.
The rope will take, I think, most of that $500 to get alone (I think it's quite expensive when you buy it like that), then you've still got the winch to work on. Myself, I wanted to keep my high mount to put on the Puma, but with the extra cost/time to make it fit, and then fit plasma, it was cheaper and easier to just get a new winch with plasma already on it.
Warn winches are very good, so I'm thinking it will depend on what you want to do with it overall, as to which way to spend your cash.
Good luck in your descision making, I struggled on this for almost 6 months before biting the bullet on this one, and my high mounts good to go.

You can get parts for your current winch anywhere and fix it yourself. If you sell it lots of people will line to to get it to do that to yours.

I doubt I could find parts for my broken Aldi winch gear box. I broke it myself with an over load and another shock load trick:angel:.

The repacement I got today has a rope option price which might temp you, Dyneema ROPE (http://tigerz11.com.au/categories/Dyneema-Rope/)

If your not to bad on the tools you could rebuild it yourself.
There is a "how to" thread on here, try the good oil for a link or maybe the projects area.
