well didn't get to bed before 12, up at 4.30 ready to go. Got an hour or two at work then off we go. Today is the start of our 5 week trip into the Simpson desert.
It started a while ago, but got penned in after reading Bushie's brilliant trip report. Thanks Bushie.

The excitement of travel to new place I have not been to, letting the kids experience something hopefully fun, and a decent amount of time to be care free is basically what I life for. Just me, the wife, and the 2 kids couldn't be simpler, and a shame the others had to bail due to various realities.
I have to admit I have a bit of apprehension not from the isolation, not from travelling alone, or not that that I drive a Tdci; but the discussion on the reliability of a TDci if I fail. No doubt I will not be able to avoid AULRO to tell all when all when its done and dusted.

Car is ready to go, camera batteries charged, and tanks full.

My plan has changed twice already with Warbuton Crossing being closed due to flood water, so will see how we go when we go.

The basics for those interested are Birdvelle, Hay River, Cattlewater pass, East McDonnell range, Alice, Andado Trc, Dalhousie Springs, Oodnadatta, Cooper Pedy, Lake Eyre, Innamincka, home.

But to all who don't even know, thanks for your input to this forum. The good, the bad, and sometimes the sad has stimulated me to go. One Life Live it is all I can say

thanks

Have a great trip. We did a similar thing in our 300tdi 130 in 2002. Not exactly the same route as you. The kids especially, but all of us got an enormous thrill out of the whole trip. It opened up everyones mind to what sort of country Australia is and gave us all a better idea of the people who inhabit some of the more remote areas. We had a couple of minor mechanical hitches, but nothing that couldn't be managed 'on the track'. so go west you all and fare you all well.
Don.

Thanks all for the support. It's great being out on the flat roads and big open skies. So far I know we are the only people camping in a tent, grey nomads huddle around the duny blocks, mine vehicles seem to carry nothing for all there accessoising, and I have a big bulls eye in the windscreen from a truck.
My idea of no beer on this trip thus far has been good idea, and Amazingly haven't felt like leaving the kids at a road side test stop yet. All good
