View Full Version : 2.7 D4 Runout Sale

What are they replacing the 2.7 with? They are advertising as part of the end of financial year sales the 2.7 model runout.
I am looking past this thinking the 8 speed is on it's way, and there will be two variants of the 3.0l with a base model 6 speed and a SE and HSE 8 speed, even though my dealer denies we are getting the 8 Speed.
As I am now confirmed that I will be ordering a new D4 at the end of the year (replacing the D2) I am hoping my timing is perfect for the SE 3.0L with an 8 speed.
Has anyone heard any more around the 8 speed and know about why they are running out the 2.7?
Thanks
JB

We have been told that we are "not" getting the 8 speed for the 13MY.
Our regulations don't require it, so no need to up the cost of the vehicle for no reason.
What they are doing is only speculation at the moment , but a down tuned, stripped 3.0ltr looks like what "may" happen.

Hey Pete,
One thing for sure is that the 2.7 Lt motor is being deleted.
Any news on the wheel size availability, given that all engine's will be a 3.0Lt ?
Cheers, Craig

If you look at the UK site which has a real poverty pack (Commercial) with the lower output 3.0 it is still fitted with 19". The limiting factor has always been the physical size of the brakes that are fitted to vehicles with the 3.0 vs the smaller brakes fitted to the 2.7 models.

Thanks Pete, it's a shame as the positive selling point would be the excellent fuel economy for such a big car. Still have to wait until the end of the year, but you never know fingers crossed.
Pete will send you a note towards the year if ok, as my experiences with the sales team from my local dealer means I have no intention of buying the D4 from them, so may see what your team can do.
Cheers

Can you expand on the 'regulatory' requirement for an 8sp gearbox? Or with the 8sp does it delete the need for a low range transfer case?
cheers

I'm tipping that Gordon is going to ne very busy importing the 18" Compomotive rims if the new Disco only comes in 19" or bigger.
You had better stay tuned Gordon.

I hear you. Left three messages with my local mob. Seems they are selling cars by the dozen this month. Unless you are buying immediately, they don't have time for you.
Anyone bought. 2.7 or 3.0 this month and willing to share the pricing available?

Emission laws don't require Euro V in our country, we are still using Euro |V emission laws.
Once the laws change we will then require the higher spec emission laws & then the vehicle will change also.
the 8 spd is there to lower fuel efficiency runs for fuel economy.
The transfer box will always be a part of the Discovery, I cannot see them ridding the t/case for a lower spec vehicle.
I could see possibly & these are my guesses, 5 seats, cloth trim, base stereo to not include the subwoofer that is in every model in Aus at present, possibly smaller brake package as the vehicle will be running less power, no fog lights, no bi-xenons & possibly a few others that I can't think of at present.
Cheers,
JayBee75, will post info when I get it.

You could almost start a thread on this topic. I have been into the melbourne showroom twice in the past six months, not recently during the sales and both times I would not say they were busy. So it takes 10 minutes for anyone to come up to me and ask if I have any questions, I ask a few then he asks if there is anything else, I say I don't think so and he walks off sits at his desk a few meters away from where I was with the car and starts texting on his phone.
If only he knew if he had actually asked some questions himself, he would have established why I was looking, and some more questions and sales technique may have got a test drive and pen to paper.
Unfortunately it was not a one off with he first time no one coming up to me whatsoever ever so after 15 minutes I walked out.
If my sales team operated in other way these guys do they would be shown the door. I have to laugh when they say the car industry is doing it tough. I think it just comes down to Australia in general and our poor customer service across a number of industries. Some do it well, but unfortunately it's far from he norm.
Try buying a car in the UK, quite an unbelievable experience........

Yeah we had to practically force that lot to sell us our D4, and they acted like we were inconveniencing them the whole time.
Only good stuff to say about their service dept tho.
The other thread is now saying there'll be an 8 spd on the detuned 3.0 but not on the higher models... But Sniegy would know the goss, i'd have thought...

My mate bought a runout D4 2.7 from Dubbo over the weekend. $76k on the road with Hi Line and sat nav. He rang around most of the dealers on the east coast and that was the best deal he could get.

Well if any of you 3.0L six speed D4 owners want to have a fire sale of your D4's so you can get a new 8 speed when they first come out give me a call. I think I can handle having a D4 that does an extra couple of litres per 100 k's.

Cheers,
Terry
