View Full Version : Unimogs v Defender

For all of you who are wondering how big a Unimog is - I had a visitor yesterday whist working on my Unimog .
Tony brought his U1250 DOKA around. This should give everyone a sense of scale of one next to my Defender 110. On my U1250, the inside track ( space between the inside of the tyres) is only 50mm wider than my Defender, and outside is 200mm wider - 365/80 R20 will do that. Tony's has the optional wide offset wheel, 90mm offset each so has a wider track but he is thinking of fitting the standard wheels and guards to bring it back in a bit.

A U1250 is one of the smaller of the modern Unimogs - DOKAs are very rare over here. Tony certainly has a unique vehicle.

Nice!
I'd like to see a Mog 411 next to a Defender. I reckon the LR would tower over it.

Ok, the 411 I know is smaller. Maybe there are different models.

All I can base it on was mine and yes you are right the 411 is a hell of a lot smaller than the modern ones but still a hell of a lot larger than any landy.

Not trying to refute your real world experience but the specs suggest they are smaller in every way to a SWB series landy except they are slightly taller.

i gather this is the vehicle i saw around the brisbane bayside area the other day (twice), i was driving a dark blue disco with a crappy painted black roof that needs a repaint

Quite likely, I don't think there is another one like that in the country, Tony is from that area.

Heres a pic of my Defender next to an Aus Army unimog, my 130 normally looks huge compared to anything else but its dwarfed by this mog.

Iain, i know it's a long shot but do you (or anyone else) know someone in NSW with a white 416 Doka?
There is one sitting in a storage shed in Sydney that appears to be in good condition... but it hasnt moved for quite awhile, i can't imagine there would be many of this style in Aus. In the same shed there is also a Forward Control.
I have to admit i'm pretty tempted to track him down to leave him my number in case he wants to sell one day :whistling:

There is a U1300 white DOKA in NSW (which used to be a single cab but the owner had it made into a double cab by joining another cab on the back) You can tell by the doors :)

If you get in contact with the owner, please drop me a PM or ask him to contact me.
Interesting photo of the U1700 next to the 130 and that is one of the 3250mm wheelbase ones.
My U1250 is the baby of the mog range, but the wheelbase is only 3250mm and the track is only 1660mm. Overall width is 2150mm. It is only a bit bigger/wider then a 130, and a bit longer at 6.7m - however the turning circle is 14.1m - better than a 130 :)

The 416 Doka in storage looks almost identical to the one below, except it has a rather serious looking frount mount PTO fitted. It is beyond me why it has sat there for so long, the tyres are starting to dry out and crack... :(
I'll see if i can track him down, i get first dibs though :p

There is a small chance but i would doubt it... if it was this truck it would have been a pretty big transformation in a relatively short amount of time.

It wouldn't have been such a big job to delete the front arch from those back doors. Would've looked a lot better IMHO.
