Hi All,

Can anybody help or recommend a good welder?

Over the weekend after thoroughly cleaning the chassis of my new project, I discovered that the rear cross member will need to be replaced... I believe that there is just too much rust in it to save. I will organise a replacement cross member, but I need somebody to cut out the old one and weld in a new one...

I don't have a welder, and I also don't have any welding skills. This isn't the sort of job that I would like to attempt as a beginner.

The car is a 1960 Series 2 SWB.

I am located in Wandong (near Kilmore) Victoria.

Can anybody help or recommend a good welder?

Regards,
The Grey Ghost.

Hi mate, if you can get it on a trailer, and get it over to Melton, I know a guy there that I would trust to do this job. He runs a steel fabrication shop a couple of doors up from my mates Painting business, and we use him all the time for all things steel. His rates are reasonable, but his workload is fairly heavy, so it would need to be booked in to do it.

Let me know if you want to go down this road, and I can get an idea of price and lead time for you.

If you can't find a decent replacement, there was someone on here that posted about a new one he had had made, and that his fabricator would be able to knock another one up easily if required. It looked like a really quality job.

Cheers - Gav

Hey Grey Ghost
If you want / need a brand new crossmember I've got one J
It was bought for a county I had about 15 years ago (I think it should be the same??)
It came from a dealer in NSW so I believe genuine LR??
$300 and it’s yours and as a bonus I'm local Darraweit Guim (just the other side of Wallan) so easy pickup no freight J
